Job description

CNC Training Supervisor (Apprenticeship Lead)
Build the Next Generation of Skilled Machinists
Some of the best machinists enjoy teaching just as much as making parts.  At Oberg Industries, we're looking for an experienced manufacturing professional who is passionate about CNC machining, blueprint reading, precision measurement, and developing future talent to be our CNC Training Supervisor for our apprentices. Whether you've built your career on the shop floor, in manufacturing leadership, or in technical training, if you enjoy sharing your knowledge and mentoring others, this is an opportunity to help shape the future of manufacturing.
As our CNC Training Supervisor, you'll lead Oberg's apprenticeship program by teaching the technical skills every successful machinist needs. Through classroom instruction, hands-on training, and real-world manufacturing applications, you'll prepare apprentices to confidently transition into our production departments while helping strengthen one of the industry's premier apprenticeship programs.  This is a highly visible leadership role that combines mentoring, technical instruction, and continuous improvement to develop the next generation of skilled manufacturing professionals.
What You'll Do:
  • Lead the day-to-day operation of Oberg's apprenticeship program.
  • Teach blueprint reading, shop mathematics, GD&T, manufacturing fundamentals, and precision measurement techniques.
  • Train apprentices on the proper use of precision inspection equipment including:
    • Micrometers
    • Calipers
    • Indicators
    • Height gages
    • Other metrology equipment
  • Develop apprentices through a combination of classroom instruction and hands-on shop training.
  • Help apprentices apply blueprint interpretation and measurement techniques to real manufacturing projects.
  • Coach apprentices on safe work practices, quality standards, accountability, and professional work habits.
  • Supervise apprentices during their initial training and provide regular performance feedback.
  • Partner with production supervisors, engineers, machinists, and grinders to ensure apprentices are prepared for production environments.
  • Continuously improve training materials, curriculum, and apprentice development processes.
  • Support recruiting efforts by participating in career fairs and apprenticeship outreach activities.
  • Provide leadership and supervision for apprenticeship staff while supporting hiring, performance management, and employee development.
  • This position will be a daylight position, working Monday through Friday.

What We're Looking For:
We're looking for someone who has spent time in precision manufacturing and understands what it takes to become a successful machinist.  Previous experience leading teams, mentoring apprentices, or conducting on-the-job training is highly valued.
Ideal candidates will have experience with:
  • CNC machining
  • Precision manufacturing
  • Blueprint reading
  • GD&T
  • Precision measuring instruments
  • Manufacturing math
  • Problem solving and troubleshooting
  • Coaching, mentoring, or training others

Qualifications:
  • Minimum 5 years of precision manufacturing experience
  • Previous CNC machining experience required
  • Successful completion of a machining apprenticeship or equivalent manufacturing experience
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings
  • Working knowledge of algebra, geometry, and trigonometry
  • Strong communication and leadership skills
  • Ability to identify problems and develop practical solutions
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or be able to comply with U.S. export regulations
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed

Why Join Oberg?
For more than 75 years, Oberg Industries has built a reputation for precision manufacturing, innovation, and investing in people. Our apprenticeship program has developed generations of highly skilled machinists, and we're committed to making it even stronger.
In this role, you'll have the opportunity to:
  • Make a lasting impact on future machinists
  • Share your technical expertise with the next generation
  • Help shape and improve an established apprenticeship program
  • Work alongside highly skilled manufacturing professionals
  • Be part of a company that values craftsmanship, continuous learning, and employee development

If you're ready to move beyond making parts and begin developing the people who will make them tomorrow, we'd love to hear from you.
Join Oberg Industries and help build the future of precision manufacturing.
