Position Description
Our Roller Operators are responsible for the safe and proper operation, maintenance and repairs, and proper roller setup. We require that they be committed to the total Ajax team effort by contributing to the proper completion of the work as directed by Foreman.
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Proper Operation of Roller
Follow proper techniques and methods including timing, pinching joints, stopping angles, proper watering of rolls and wheels, etc.
Avoid excessive starting and stopping.
Match roller speed to layout speed.
Participate in establishing and continues an effective rolling pattern until conditions, or density require change.
2. Proper Maintenance and Repair
Must keep shop informed of operating deficiencies.
Must perform daily maintenance and lubrication.
Must keep roller clean on a daily basis.
Must be on the job troubleshooter and communicate with the shop to find solutions to problems.
Assist the mechanic and perform mechanical repairs possible using standard tools and supplies
kept on the job (Hydraulic leaks, loose belts, tighten chains and belts, minor fuel problems, etc.)
3. Proper Setup of Compaction Equipment for the Job
Make sure roller's weights are as directed by the Forman.
All necessary compaction equipment is on the job and ready to go.
Must check out equipment each day.
SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENTAL
1. Enforce all rules listed in the Ajax employee handbook.
2. Insure all Ajax quality standards are met.
3. Insure adherence to all federal, state, local and Ajax Safety and Environmental Rules and Regulations.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS
1. Field operation - Work is exposed to outdoor conditions, noise and heat.
2. Ability to work days, nights and weekends as required.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The essential functions of this position includes sitting, standing, walking, climbing, reaching, bending, stooping, trunk movements, twisting, lifting minimum of 45 lbs., carrying, pushing/pulling, dexterity of hands and fingers, seeing, hearing and talking.
CHARACTER REQUIREMENTS
1. Self-motivated
2. Ability to work well with subordinates, peers and supervisors
3. Ambitious
ATTENDANCE AND RELIABILITY
1. Reporting to work on time, after lunch, and not leaving early unless authorized.
2. Always providing proper notification and advance notice of absence.
3. Not abusing or taking advantage of personal days off.
4. Performing such other duties as may be required.
