What is a flex operator?

A Flex Operator is a versatile worker typically employed in manufacturing, warehousing, or logistics environments. Their main role is to perform a variety of tasks across different departments or workstations, adapting to changing business needs. Flex Operators may assist with assembly, packaging, material handling, or machine operation, providing flexibility and support wherever needed. This position requires adaptability, quick learning, and the ability to follow safety and quality standards. The job helps companies maintain efficiency and productivity during peak periods or staff shortages.

What are some common challenges flex operators face when adapting to different production lines or equipment?

Flex Operators often need to quickly learn and adapt to various production lines and machinery, which can be challenging due to differences in operating procedures, safety protocols, and technical requirements. Staying organized and maintaining attention to detail are crucial to avoid errors when switching between tasks. Effective communication with team members and supervisors helps ensure a smooth transition and minimizes downtime. Most employers provide on-the-job training, but a proactive approach to learning new systems and asking questions can greatly enhance success in this flexible role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a flex operator, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Flex Operator, you need a strong understanding of manufacturing processes, attention to detail, and often a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with production machinery, quality control systems, and sometimes certifications like forklift operation are typically required. Strong problem-solving abilities, teamwork, and effective communication are essential soft skills for this role. These skills ensure efficient machine operation, maintain safety standards, and contribute to smooth production workflows.

Job Summary
Flex intends to spin off its Cloud and Power Infrastructure segment into a new, independent publicly traded company, which we're calling SpinCo, until the name is unveiled. The spin is planned for Q1 2027. If the intended spin occurs, this role will support SpinCo, which will focus on critical digital infrastructure, delivering end-to-end power and thermal management solutions for AI data centers and other mission-critical applications.
To support our growth and build the next generation of data center infrastructure solutions, we are seeking a Sr. Director, Business Development based in Austin, Texas or remote from within the US.
This role will identify, qualify, and develop strategic business opportunities across the cloud and data center ecosystem. The successful candidate will build strong relationships with hyperscalers, neocloud providers, colocation companies, data center operators, and technology partners-translating their infrastructure requirements into differentiated solutions spanning integrated racks, liquid cooling, power systems, manufacturing, supply chain, logistics, and lifecycle services.
The position will be accountable for developing a high-quality opportunity pipeline, securing new business, expanding strategic accounts, and delivering revenue and operating-profit growth against individual and team objectives.
What a typical day looks like:
  • Develop and execute business development strategies for SpinCo's Cloud & Cooling portfolio, with a focus on new customers, emerging market segments, and strategic account expansion.
  • Build trusted relationships with customer executives, engineering leaders, sourcing teams, and operations stakeholders to understand their business priorities, technology roadmaps, capacity plans, and future infrastructure requirements.
  • Identify and qualify opportunities across data center infrastructure, including integrated rack solutions, liquid cooling, power systems, and related manufacturing and supply chain services.
  • Shape customer-specific value propositions that connect SpinCo's technical, manufacturing, supply chain, and lifecycle capabilities to the customer's business and operational objectives.
  • Lead early-stage customer engagement-from account targeting and opportunity qualification through solution development, commercial alignment, proposal creation, and business award.
  • Coordinate with global account management, engineering, operations, supply chain, finance, and executive leadership to develop solutions that are technically credible, operationally executable, and financially attractive.
  • Develop commercial strategies and business cases that address pricing, investment requirements, capacity, risk, profitability, and return on investment.
  • Maintain a disciplined pipeline, including opportunity value, probability, timing, decision criteria, competitive position, risks, and actions required to advance each opportunity.
  • Support existing accounts in identifying adjacent opportunities and expanding SpinCo's role across the customer's product and infrastructure roadmap.
  • Serve as the commercial focal point during the development and launch of new opportunities, ensuring continuity from initial customer engagement through program transition and execution.
  • Monitor market trends, customer investments, competitive activity, and technology developments across cloud, AI infrastructure, liquid cooling, and data center power.
  • Represent SpinCo professionally and consistently in all interactions with customers, partners, and internal stakeholders.

The experience we're looking to add to our team:
  • A Bachelor's degree in engineering, sciences, business or a related field.
  • Typically requires 5-10 years of related experience in Electronic Manufacturing Services, Datacenter or Cloud B2B Services sales
  • Experience working with and selling into datacenter customers, such as hyperscalers, Neocloud and data center operators and colocation providers
  • Ability to work with internal teams and executive management as well as external customers to maximize mutual benefit.
  • Knowledge of datacenter infrastructure, such as integrated racks, liquid cooling and power systems is a plus
  • Knowledge of Strategic Selling techniques.
  • Understanding of key financial metrics and capability to read P&L, balance sheets, ROI indicators, taking actions to meet customers' needs and internal targets.
  • Ability to successfully influence senior level management, executives, and key clients.

What you'll receive for the great work you provide:
  • Full range of medical, dental, and vision plans
