Job description

Instrumentation, Controls and Electrical (IC&E) Technician

Work Locations: Brandywine, MD

Compensation: $48 - $60 Per Hour

Schedule: 40 hours/week, with required overtime and on-call response during plant outages (including working in excess of 14 consecutive days during planned outages twice a year).

Relocation: Relocation assistance is available for qualifying candidates moving from outside the local area.

Company Information:

Alpha Generation manages and operates power generation facilities that are well positioned to provide reliable, secure, safe, and sustainable power to meet increasing demand for electricity. AlphaGen oversees one of the largest domestic, independent power portfolios, with nearly $2 billion in annual revenue, and manages over 14,000 megawatts of power infrastructure across four RTO markets (PJM, NYISO, ISONE, and CAISO) with a best-in-class senior management team focused on value creation while managing risk.

Position Summary:

Alpha Generation is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated technician to join the Brandywine Power Facility as an Instrumentation, Controls and Electrical (IC&E) Technician. The role operates within a non-union plant environment emphasizing safety compliance, operational accountability, and self-sufficient execution. The ideal candidate bridges the gap between software/DCS/ladder logic proficiency and hands-on field electrical capabilities to maintain, troubleshoot, and calibrate plant instrumentation, control systems, and electrical equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and calibrate plant instrumentation, control systems, and electrical equipment at the Brandywine Power Facility, executing preventative maintenance and daily work orders via CMMS (EAM, Maximo, SAP).
  • Comprehend and interpret engineering drawings—including schematics, one-line diagrams, P&IDs, and function logic diagrams—and create marked-up prints of field conditions.
  • Execute strong troubleshooting with instrumentation and control systems, Distributed Control Systems (DCS), and Programmable Logic Controls (PLC), with high desire for GE Mark V, Mark VIe, and Emerson Ovation experience.
  • Perform instrumentation calibration and electrical testing, including transmitter calibrations, valve calibrations, insulation resistance testing, battery testing, generator flux probe testing, and chemistry analyzers.
  • Work with main power plant components and systems, including turbines, generators, boilers, motors, pumps, cooling systems, hydraulic systems, relays, and transmission interconnection equipment.
  • Service medium and low voltage switchgear, breakers, power cables up to 15KV, Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS), Motor Control Centers (MCC), and Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems (CEMS).
  • Identify and perform electrical system repairs and upgrades, including transmitters, motors, switches, sensors, wiring replacement, and conduit installation.
  • Assemble maintenance and testing reports for compliance purposes while effectively interacting with internal/external vendors and various levels of management.
  • Operate machinery such as boom lifts, scissor lifts, and forklifts.
  • Provide crucial execution support during planned and emergency plant outages.

Key Attributes:

  • High energy level with an uncompromising regard for safety, equipment condition, and a Commitment to Excellence.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and make sound technical decisions without direct supervision.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Capable of working outdoors in extreme temperatures, high humidity, at heights up to 120 feet, in confined spaces, and around rotating equipment and high-voltage electrical equipment.
  • Willingness and ability to lift, pull, push, and carry equipment, tools, and parts weighing up to 50 pounds, and stand, walk, kneel, bend, and squat for extended periods.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum 4 years of Instrumentation, Control systems, and Electrical experience in a power generation, utility, or marine propulsion environment.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of power utility industry standards, process safety measures, safe work practices, appropriate PPE, equipment sizing, analysis calculations, and the NFPA 70 electrical code.
  • Valid Driver’s License required with the ability to operate a motor vehicle.

AlphaGen is an equal opportunity employer.
