Job description

Fred Smith Company is currently searching for a Fleet Transportation Superintendent for our Fleet Division in Raleigh! FSC is an established, and growing, heavy highway, site construction contractor and asphalt manufacturer with approximately 1,300 employees based in Raleigh, North Carolina and operating as far East as Kitty Hawk and as far West as Winston-Salem. The ideal candidate will have 5+ years prior experience in Transportation & Fleet Management within the construction industry.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate and assist with scheduling thedispatch of equipment, lowboys, fuel deliveries, fuel trucks, and labor to achieve the optimum use of company resources.
  • Provide support that will include filling in for assigned foremen while on vacation, personal leave, or out for other reasons.
  • Supervise assigned personnel in the activities of operating lowboys, transporting equipment, fueling equipment, dispatching trucks, marketing services of the department and arranging maintenance of assigned vehicles.
  • Supervise assigned subcontractors in their activities to assure sound procedures and methods comply with company and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure department vehicles are compliant with the company's preventative maintenance program.
  • Monitor and/or coordinate the scheduling, ordering and delivery of materials and parts used by transportation department personnel.
  • Participate in the evaluation of existing equipment and new fleet needs. Present recommendations to the Fleet Manager.
  • Forecast all anticipated major repairs needed by the Transportation Department and advise the Fleet Manager of this forecast.
  • Keep current on all state Department of Transportation regulations, FMCSA regulations, and the company's compliance to the same.
  • Ensure all team members are compliant with procedures regarding the flow of paperwork; verify daily reports, time sheets, personnel forms, etc. and assure all information reaches the proper department in a uniform, consistent and timely manner.
  • Monitor and evaluate schedules, salaries, promotions, job assignments, equipment needs, on-the-job training, and job safety.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Class A CDL with Hazmat & Tanker endorsements
  • Computer literate with excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Prior experience with Microsoft Excel & Microsoft Outlook
  • Prior experience with HCSS Safety & HCSS Heavy Jobs a plus (preferred, not required)
  • Complete understanding & knowledge of all local ordinances and laws concerning EPA regulations, fuel spill plan and other hazardous procedures.
  • Complete understanding & knowledge of all state Department of Transportation regulations & FMCSA regulations.
