National Grid is hiring an Associate Engineer for our Operations Support Logistics - Fleet department in Syracuse, NY or NorthBorough, MA.

Job Purpose
The Associate Engineer within the Fleet Asset and Performance department is responsible for delivering engineering support and guidance across all phases of the company's fleet vehicle and equipment lifecycle, including:
  • Asset replacement planning
  • Vehicle and equipment sourcing and acquisition
  • Incident Analysis
  • Asset disposal
  • Asset performance

National Grid's Fleet Engineers serve as the primary contact and liaison for our partners in Fleet, our internal customers in Operations, procurement, manufacturers and suppliers on matters concerning vehicle specifications within the scope of role assigned.
Key Accountabilities
  • Responsible for planning and managing the vehicle and equipment replacement program and vehicle & equipment acquisition process.
  • Liaison with Fleet Procurement for vehicle and equipment sourcing process.
  • Interpret and evaluate vendor bids.
  • Develop and maintain specifications for fleet vehicles and equipment.
  • Serve as liaison and primary contact for fleet, internal customers, procurement, manufacturers and suppliers for vehicle specifications within scope.
  • Participate in vehicle and equipment committee teams in the development and improvement of fleet standards, guidelines and specifications.
  • Responsible for research of new vehicle technology; EV, PHEV, hydrogen, fuel cell, etc. to continuously improve against the company's greenhouse gas strategy and meet future emission requirements.
  • Assist in the development of maintenance service schedules & procedures according to manufacturer guidelines and regulatory compliance.
  • Monitor manufacturer vendor performance, ensure company expectations & order details are being met, correct deficiencies.
  • Perform field analysis of equipment defects and accident investigations.
  • Support development of technical service bulletins and communicate to fleet services and field.
  • Maintain working knowledge of environmental, state, and federal compliance regulations and assure compliance.
  • Coordinate and perform compliance review and acceptance testing at vendor facilities and in the field.
  • Develop purchase and acceptance test specifications in compliance with current D.O.T., O.S.H.A., ANSI, SAE, FMVSS and other Federal and State Safety and/or engineering guidelines.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor or Master's degree in Engineering from an accredited institution, Mechanical Engineering preferred.
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with multiple organizational levels.
  • Demonstration of creativity, foresight and engineering judgment in anticipating and solving engineering problems.
  • Ability to translate technical expertise into layman terms for interaction with internal and external clients.
  • Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Valid driver's license with safe driving history.

Upstate NY: $64,000.00 - $75,000.00 USD annually
MA: $72,000.00 - $84,000.00 USD annually
