The modification and upgrade (MAU) team is a division of Collins Aerospace responsible for incorporating changes to in-service aircraft interiors, including commercial seating, cabin attendant seating, galleys, etc.  In doing so, we extend the life of Collins products on airplanes and improve airline and passenger satisfaction.

The flammability engineer position on the MAU team is for a technical leader with knowledge of aircraft interiors flammability requirements and certification.  This position supports our commercial seating products to certify and deliver modifications to TSOA seats and related furniture.

What You Will Do:

The flammability engineer is primarily responsible for showing compliance of commercial seats federal and industry standards to support implementation of seat modifications onto aircraft.  This would involve being responsible for the following activities.

  • Work within a cross-function team of engineering, certification, and program management in a fast-paced, customer focused environment.

  • Conduct testing, analysis, and design reviews to show compliance with applicable structural and occupant injury requirements (14 CFR 25.853, 14 CFR 25.869, Heat Release SCs, Etc.).

  • Generate and check compliance plans and documents to support TSO, PMA, and STC Approvals as an ODA unit member.

  • Participate in training to grow talent and process development.

  • Participate as a team player across the organization and further the values and vision of the organization.

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 2 years of prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field

  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.

  • 1-3 years of experience in certification/testing and aircraft cabin interiors, preferably commercial seating.

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Familiarity with testing and substantiation for Bunsen burner tests, oil burner tests, and OSU heat release / smoke density per 14 CFR 25 App F.

  • Working knowledge of certification under 14 CFR Part 21 and Part 25.

  • Knowledge of TSO/PMA/STC/TC qualification and certification as an ODA unit member.

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.

  • Clear communication and technical leadership skills.

The salary range for this role is 68,900 USD - 131,100 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills. Hired applicants may be eligible for benefits, including but not limited to, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, flexible work schedules, employee assistance program, Employee Scholar Program, parental leave, paid time off, and holidays. Specific benefits are dependent upon the specific business unit as well as whether or not the position is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.
