What does a Flame Artist (Finishing Editor) do at WPP Production?
Flame Artist is a top-tier VFX and finishing specialist who uses Autodesk Flame to lead high-end visual effects, conform, color grade, and final deliverables for commercials, film, and digital media . They act as the final gatekeepers of quality, managing client expectations in high-pressure, client-supervised sessions.
Core Responsibilities
  • Supervised Sessions: Lead in-studio or remote sessions with directors, agency creatives, and producers, translating live feedback into instant visual changes.
  • Advanced Compositing & Finishing: Perform complex 2D and 3D compositing, beauty retouching, rig removal, and CGI integration.
  • Conforming & Mastering: Manage the timeline from offline edit to final master, ensuring color continuity, frame rates, and resolution standards are met for broadcast and web.
  • Project Bidding & Scoping: Collaborate with executive producers and creative directors to break down scripts, bid VFX projects, and devise time/cost-effective pipelines.
  • Team Mentorship: Oversee junior artists and assistant Flame artists, delegating tasks and reviewing their work for quality control before final delivery.

Technical Qualifications
  • Expertise in Autodesk Flame: Mastery of node-based and timeline environments, Matchbox shaders, Action, and Batch workflows. [1]
  • Pipeline Integration: Familiarity with the broader post-production pipeline, including integration with Maya, 3D S Max, Nuke, and major color grading suites (e.g., DaVinci Resolve).
  • Codecs & Color Spaces: Deep understanding of digital video formats, HDR/SDR pipelines, LUTs, and various encoding standards. [1]
  • Cross-Software Literacy: Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (After Effects, Photoshop, Premiere) for asset creation and offline prep. [1]
