Freedom Outdoors is seeking an experienced, motivated leader to join our leadership team as an Assistant Store Manager.

This position plays a critical role in the daily success of the store by partnering with the Store Manager to lead operations, develop employees, drive retail performance, and deliver an exceptional customer experience. The Assistant Store Manager is both a strategic and hands-on leader responsible for helping ensure the store operates efficiently while maintaining high standards for merchandising, inventory, customer service, team performance, and operational execution.

This role requires someone who is comfortable leading from the floor, making decisions, setting priorities, coaching employees, and stepping in wherever needed to keep the business moving forward.

If you're passionate about leadership, enjoy developing people, have a strong retail mindset, and thrive in a fast-paced environment, we'd love to hear from you.

What You'll Do

  • Partner directly with the Store Manager to lead the day-to-day operations of the store and maintain a safe, organized, productive, and customer-focused environment.
  • Provide hands-on leadership and direction to Operations Supervisors and Store Associates while ensuring alignment with company goals, standards, and expectations.
  • Oversee the sales floor and adjust staffing, employee focus, and daily priorities based on customer traffic and business needs.
  • Create and manage employee schedules to ensure proper coverage, productivity, and effective labor management.
  • Recruit, interview, hire, and onboard new team members.
  • Train, coach, and develop employees through regular feedback, recognition, accountability, and performance management.
  • Monitor individual and team performance, attendance, productivity, labor performance, and overall operational execution.
  • Identify operational opportunities and implement or recommend solutions to improve store performance and customer experience.
  • Support opening and closing procedures, cash handling, deposits, floor readiness, and other daily operational responsibilities.
  • Maintain strong merchandising standards, including product placement, stock levels, inventory visibility, signage, and overall presentation of the sales floor.
  • Support inventory accuracy through inventory reconciliation, product organization, communication, and partnership with warehouse and receiving teams.
  • Partner with leadership to ensure marketing initiatives and promotions are properly communicated and executed throughout the store.
  • Prioritize and delegate daily projects and operational tasks while following up to ensure timely and accurate completion.
  • Assist with administrative responsibilities including scheduling, reporting, documentation, payroll management, and operational planning.
  • Help develop and deliver training programs focused on customer service, product knowledge, operational procedures, and employee development.
  • Build strong customer relationships and assist with resolving escalated customer concerns quickly and professionally.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, safety procedures, operational standards, and all applicable federal, state, and local firearm regulations.
  • Partner with the Store Manager to achieve sales, membership, operational, labor, and financial goals.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, well-stocked, and visually appealing store environment.
  • Lead by example and help create a positive, accountable, team-oriented, and performance-driven culture that reflects the mission and values of Freedom Outdoors.

What We're Looking For

  • 2+ years of retail leadership experience, preferably in a high-volume, specialty retail, or customer-focused environment.
  • Strong leadership skills with demonstrated experience coaching, motivating, and developing employees.
  • Experience managing daily retail operations and employee scheduling.
  • Strong understanding of merchandising, inventory control, and retail operational workflows.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to effectively delegate, prioritize, and manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to evaluate performance, provide constructive feedback, and hold team members accountable to expectations.
  • Strong customer-service mindset with the ability to professionally resolve customer concerns and escalations.
  • Comfortable making independent decisions while knowing when to involve the Store Manager or senior leadership.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and familiarity with POS, scheduling, inventory, and retail management systems.
  • Firearm knowledge and experience with firearm sales regulations are preferred but not required.
  • Interest in the outdoors, shooting sports, and the Freedom Outdoors mission is strongly preferred.
