To thrive as a Flagler, you need a solid understanding of traffic control procedures, safety protocols, and often a flagger certification from a recognized authority such as OSHA or your state’s Department of Transportation. Familiarity with two-way radios, stop/slow paddles, and reflective safety gear is typically required. Attention to detail, strong communication, and the ability to remain calm under pressure are essential soft skills in this role. These skills ensure the safety of construction crews, motorists, and pedestrians while maintaining efficient traffic flow around work zones.

What are Flaglers?

A Flagler typically refers to a worker who is responsible for directing traffic and ensuring safety at construction sites, roadways, or other areas where traffic flow needs to be managed. Their main duties include signaling drivers, using flags or signs, and coordinating with other workers to prevent accidents. Flaggers play a crucial role in maintaining a safe environment for both the public and construction personnel. Training and certification are often required to become a flagger, and attention to detail is essential for this job.
