Flagger Salary information

What is a flagger salary?

A flagger's salary can vary depending on location, experience, and the employer. On average in the United States, flaggers typically earn between $14 and $22 per hour. Annual salaries usually range from $29,000 to $46,000, with opportunities for overtime pay in many positions. Urban areas or regions with high construction demand may offer higher wages. Benefits such as health insurance or retirement plans may also be available depending on the employer.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a flagger, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Flagger, you need a basic understanding of traffic control procedures, safety regulations, and typically a high school diploma or equivalent. Training in flagging operations, familiarity with traffic control devices, and certification from organizations like the American Traffic Safety Services Association (ATSSA) are often required. Strong communication skills, alertness, and the ability to remain calm under pressure help flaggers effectively manage traffic and ensure safety. These skills are crucial for preventing accidents and maintaining safe work zones for both workers and the public.
