A Certified Flagger is responsible for directing traffic around construction zones, road maintenance projects, or other work areas to ensure the safety of workers, drivers, and pedestrians. They use hand signals, signs, and flags to communicate with motorists and maintain an orderly flow of traffic. Flaggers must complete a certification course to learn proper signaling techniques, safety protocols, and state regulations. This role requires attentiveness, quick decision-making, and the ability to work in various weather conditions.
To excel as a Certified Flagger, you need thorough knowledge of traffic control procedures, safety protocols, and the ability to remain attentive for extended periods, typically validated by completion of a recognized flagger certification course. Familiarity with standard traffic control devices such as handheld stop/slow paddles, two-way radios, and high-visibility PPE is crucial. We are looking to hire a dedicated and observant flagger to monitor the flow of traffic around road construction sites. The flagger's responsibilities include informing motorists of possible detour routes, reporting disobedient drivers to law enforcement officials, and answering motorists' questions. You should also be able to direct emergency vehicles safely through construction zones as required.
To be successful as a flagger, you should have excellent communication skills and be able to work effectively as part of a team. Ultimately, a top-notch flagger should demonstrate a sound knowledge of state traffic regulations as well as exceptional observation skills.
