Fixed Operations Manager information

What is a fixed operations manager?

A Fixed Operations Manager oversees the service, parts, and sometimes the body shop departments in an automotive dealership. Their primary responsibilities include managing daily operations, ensuring high customer satisfaction, increasing profitability, and maintaining efficient workflow in these departments. They work closely with service advisors, technicians, and parts staff to coordinate repairs, maintenance, and parts sales. Effective Fixed Operations Managers also focus on staff training, process improvement, and meeting performance targets for the dealership.

How does a fixed operations manager typically collaborate with other departments within a dealership?

A Fixed Operations Manager works closely with the service, parts, and sometimes body shop departments to ensure smooth workflows and consistent customer satisfaction. They often coordinate with the sales department to align service promotions or resolve customer concerns that span multiple areas. Regular meetings and clear communication with department heads are common, facilitating unified goals and addressing operational challenges. This collaborative approach helps maximize efficiency, drive profitability, and support overall dealership success.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a fixed operations manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Fixed Operations Manager, you need a solid background in automotive service operations, inventory management, and customer service, typically supported by experience in dealership environments and sometimes a degree in business or automotive management. Familiarity with dealership management systems (DMS), repair order software, and manufacturer certification programs is highly valuable. Leadership, problem-solving, and strong communication skills help motivate teams and ensure customer satisfaction. These skills are essential for optimizing service department efficiency, driving revenue growth, and maintaining high customer loyalty in a competitive market.

What is the difference between Fixed Operations Manager vs Service Director?

AspectFixed Operations ManagerService Director
CredentialsExperience in automotive service, certifications like ASE or OEM-specific trainingSimilar certifications, often with additional leadership or business management credentials
Work EnvironmentOversees service, parts, and repair departments within a dealershipLeads the entire service department, focusing on operations, customer satisfaction, and profitability
Industry UsageCommonly used in automotive dealerships and repair shopsPrimarily used in larger dealerships or automotive groups with broader responsibilities

The Fixed Operations Manager and Service Director roles share similar credentials and work environments, both focusing on automotive service operations. However, the Service Director typically has a broader scope, overseeing the entire service department's strategic and operational aspects, especially in larger dealerships. The Fixed Operations Manager often handles day-to-day management, making these roles distinct yet closely related in the automotive industry.

Employment Type: Full Time Contract (5 years)

Division: Grain

Location: Winnipeg, MB, Cambridge/Guelph, ON, or another P&H office in Canada

Who We Are

Parrish & Heimbecker, Limited (P&H) is a Canadian, family-owned company with over 115 years in agriculture. We operate across four divisions: Grain & Crop Inputs, Flour Milling, P&H Foods, and New-Life Mills, delivering trusted solutions from crop inputs and grain handling to flour milling, livestock nutrition, and egg production. By connecting Canadian farms to tables across the country and beyond, we’re committed to quality, innovation, and sustainability as we shape the future of food and agriculture.

Your Team

Grain & Crop Inputs: The Grain & Crop Inputs Division connects Canadian farmers to markets across the country and beyond. With a network of grain elevators, terminals, and agri-retail locations, we provide crop inputs, agronomic solutions, and grain marketing expertise to help producers succeed.

The Role

As a Sr. Finance Transformation Lead, the successful candidate will be responsible for playing a central role in a major enterprise-wide ERP transformation across six distinct business verticals. Reporting to Enterprise ERP Program Leadership / Finance & IT Executive Sponsor, this role will represent Finance on the core project team, helping define future-state financial processes and align finance functions, policies, and procedures across all business units. The Finance Lead will help ensure the ERP solution supports consistent, scalable, and well-controlled finance operations across the enterprise. This role will lead decision-making on aligned finance functions, challenge legacy practices, and support new ways of working where enterprise alignment is required. The Finance Lead will also work closely with business users, divisional Finance teams, IT, implementation partners, and senior executives to support clear communication, practical decision-making, and adoption of enterprise-wide processes.

Day to Day
  • Serve as the senior finance representative on the enterprise ERP project team, providing leadership, subject matter expertise, and decision support across finance-related workstreams.
  • Lead the definition and documentation of future-state finance processes, including general ledger, chart of accounts, AP, AR, fixed assets, intercompany, reporting, budgeting, controls, and month-end close.
  • Work with Finance teams across six business verticals to understand current-state processes, identify differences, and determine which core finance functions, policies, and processes should be aligned.
  • Lead decision-making for aligned finance functions by evaluating options, framing trade-offs, obtaining input, and moving the organization toward practical enterprise-wide decisions.
  • Recommend future-state solutions that may differ from historical divisional practices, while ensuring processes are efficient, controlled, scalable, and appropriate for the organization.
  • Partner with IT, business analysts, implementation partners, divisional subject matter experts, business users, and senior executives to translate finance requirements into practical ERP design decisions.
  • Apply project management discipline to finance workstream activities, including planning, issue tracking, milestone management, stakeholder follow-up, and escalation of key decisions.
  • Champion consistent financial data structures, reporting standards, approval workflows, accounting policies, and internal control requirements across the enterprise.
  • Participate in solution design workshops, configuration reviews, testing cycles, data migration validation, user acceptance testing, cutover planning, and post-go-live stabilization.
  • Help define roles, responsibilities, process ownership, and accountability across corporate and divisional Finance teams in the future-state operating model.
  • Lead change processes for accounting groups within each business vertical, including communication, stakeholder engagement, training support, issue resolution, and adoption of new ways of working.
  • Promote practical adoption of ERP best practices while balancing the unique operational needs of each business vertically.
What You’ll Bring
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive finance, accounting, controllership, financial reporting, or finance transformation experience with a CPA designation.
  • Prior experience leading an ERP implementation, finance systems transformation, shared services initiative, or significant business process redesign project.
  • Project management experience, including the ability to manage deliverables, coordinate stakeholders, track issues, support decision-making, and maintain momentum in a complex project environment.
  • Strong understanding of core finance processes, internal controls, financial reporting, account structures, intercompany transactions, accounting policies, and month-end close requirements.
  • Experience in a complex, multi-entity, multi-division, manufacturing, distribution, agribusiness, food, or similar operational environment is considered an asset.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to understand both detailed process requirements and broader enterprise-level implications.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with both operational business users and senior executive audiences, including the ability to explain complex finance, process, and system matters in a clear, concise, and business-focused manner.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office tools; experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Supply Chain Management or other large-scale ERP systems is an asset.
