Job description

Westridge Iron is seeking an Accounting Assistant to join their team in Vernon, BC. Reporting to the Controller, the Accounting Assistant supports the day-to-day financial operations of the company, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, and month-end close activities across the organization's entities.

This role helps ensure accurate financial records, timely reporting, and strong financial discipline by providing reliable transactional and administrative support to the finance team.

This role requires strong attention to detail, solid organizational skills, and the ability to operate in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment.

Roles and Responsibilities:

General Accounting & Month-End Support

  • Track and code project related expenses by job.
  • Prepare and reconcile monthly LEM reports.
  • Pull WorkSafe Clearance letters.
  • Assist with intercompany accounting and bank reconciliations (8+ companies).
  • Assist with month-end and year-end close procedures (8+ companies).
  • Assist with payroll admin (DPSP/RRSP and benefit enrollments).
  • Maintain fixed asset schedules.
  • Assist with variance analysis.
  • Assist with audit prep and documentation requests.

Reporting & Administration

  • Prepare financial reports for the Controller.
  • Provide general admin support to the finance department (AR and AP support).
  • Process AR credit applications, invoices and payment receipts.
  • Support CRA and Provincial remittance filings.
  • Support multi-company consolidation reporting and analysis.
  • Administer insurance policies and renewals (certificates of insurance, claims support, renewal tracking).

Compliance & Controls

  • Ensure transactions are processed in accordance with internal controls and company policy.
  • Prepare and file monthly PST/GST returns and Income Tax Installments, for all entities.
  • Support timely and accurate filing of applicable tax documentation (e.g., WCB/WSIB, T4A/1099 support).
  • Flag discrepancies or irregularities to the Controller.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary coursework in accounting, business, or finance an asset.
  • 3+ years of experience in an accounting or bookkeeping support role.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry.
