Xplore is building a world-class fibre optic and 5G wireless network to enable innovative broadband services for better every day rural living, for today and future generations.

We are seeking to hire a full-time, permanent Field Operations Technician based in Swift Current or Moose Jaw SK. Reporting into the Field Operations Manager, you will be responsible for the hands-on day-to-day integration, repair and maintenance of the Xplore network. You are a self-starter who works well both independently and as part of a greater team, with excellent organizational and communication skills. This position acts as a prime in-field technical contact for support groups in the areas of network construction, repair, maintenance and support.
This role requires basic knowledge of IP Networking, working knowledge of both fixed wireless and Fibre optic network deployments, as well as a basic knowledge of telecom construction and tower rigging. This position will involve both on call support and off-hours maintenance work. Some overnight travel is a requirement and you must be willing to adapt to flexible work schedule.
Key responsibilities include:

  • Strong problem solving, organizational, verbal, listening and written communication skills
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, and interact with groups throughout the organization
  • Capable of working on a variety of projects and coordinating multiple priorities
  • Aptitude in IP networking which includes IP addressing and basic routing
  • Knowledge in telecom construction including: Fibre Optic and copper cabling, punching, proper cable pulling techniques, racking, ground systems, static precautions, non-ionizing transmission safety, Occupational Health and safety as it relates to construction
  • Strong understanding around AC and DC power systems and conversions including: voltage and wiring of single and poly-phase alternating current cables, direct current, and negative grounded direct current
  • Experience with identifying all major types of RF, Fiber and power connectors.
  • Experience with the construction and maintenance of communication tower sites
    Strong troubleshooting skills
  • Strong organizational and time/task management skills

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • 1-year related work experience or a degree/diploma from a related discipline
  • Valid Driverโ€™s License
  • Excellent verbal, listening and written communication skills
  • Experience with fixed wireless and Fibre optic network deployments
  • Experience handling, configuring and installing Network Equipment (ex. Ericsson, Ceragon, Alpha DC Power Systems, Ciena, Cisco)
  • Strong troubleshooting skills. The ability to break problems down using an Analytical approach
  • Exposure to industry standards for Health & Safety, Construction & CSA
  • Working knowledge of networking technologies including TCP/IP, routers, switches, DHCP
  • Basic understanding of fixed wireless/ Fibre Optic network architecture and infrastructure.
  • A credit card capable of carrying work related expenses
  • The ability to work outside in all types of weather conditions
  • Ability to work away from home. Long days & weekends as required
