What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Fish Recruiter, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Fish Recruiter (Fisheries Recruiter), you need a solid understanding of fisheries management, talent acquisition processes, and relevant education in marine biology or human resources. Familiarity with applicant tracking systems (ATS), fisheries-specific databases, and recruitment platforms is typically required. Strong interpersonal skills, effective communication, and the ability to build relationships with both candidates and industry partners are crucial soft skills. These competencies enable efficient hiring of qualified professionals, contributing to the success and sustainability of fisheries operations.

What are some common challenges faced by fish recruiters when sourcing candidates for aquaculture and fisheries roles?

Fish recruiters often encounter challenges such as a limited pool of qualified candidates, especially for specialized aquaculture or fisheries management positions. Many roles require a unique combination of technical expertise, hands-on experience, and regulatory knowledge, which can be difficult to find. Additionally, recruiting for roles located in rural or remote areas can make it harder to attract talent willing to relocate. To overcome these obstacles, recruiters often build strong industry networks and partner with educational institutions to identify emerging talent.

What are Fish Recruiters?

Fish recruiters are professionals who specialize in sourcing, evaluating, and hiring candidates for positions within the fisheries, aquaculture, or seafood processing industries. They work with companies to identify staffing needs, screen applicants, and facilitate the hiring process for roles such as fish farmers, marine biologists, and processing plant workers. Fish recruiters must understand the unique requirements of these industries, including regulatory compliance and specialized skills, to ensure they find the right fit for each position.

Job description

Commonwealth Partners is partnering with Big Fish to recruit a VP of Strategic Partnerships. If you're interested in the role - or know someone who might be - please reach out to Chaz Cirame at chaz@recruitbigfish.com.
VP of Strategic Partnerships
Commonwealth Partners Chamber of Entrepreneurs
Location: Pennsylvania - Harrisburg, Philadelphia, or Pittsburgh (Hybrid/Remote in PA)
Job Type: Full-time
Reports To: President & CEO
Travel: Regular travel within Pennsylvania; occasional national travel as needed
Compensation: Contingent on specific skills and experience
About Commonwealth Partners
Commonwealth Partners Chamber of Entrepreneurs is a membership association that engages entrepreneurs to lead free-market political and policy change in Pennsylvania. Now in its 10th year of operations, the organization brings together business leaders and entrepreneurs who believe in economic freedom, constitutional government, and the power of principled leadership to shape public life - with the goal of building a stronger Pennsylvania.
About the Opportunity
The VP of Strategic Partnerships is a major-gifts officer role that reports directly to the President & CEO. The person in this seat will own a portfolio of current and prospective members and donors, develop and execute cultivation and solicitation strategies, and partner closely with the CEO on relationship strategy and meeting preparation. Commonwealth Partners is a 501c6 with a full suite of affiliated operations including a 501c3, 501c4, state political action committees, and a federal Super PAC.
In our experience working with Commonwealth Partners, the candidates who thrive here are relationship builders with real discipline - people who are comfortable in the room with high-capacity entrepreneurs and executives, who can build trust quickly, and who enjoy bringing order and follow-through to a portfolio with a lot of moving pieces. This role can grow along with the organization over time and may open pathways into broader development responsibility.
What You'll Do

  • Manage a portfolio of current and prospective major donors and members.
  • Develop and implement cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies for assigned relationships.
  • Conduct outreach, schedule meetings, and maintain regular contact with donors, members, and prospects.
  • Partner with the President & CEO on relationship strategy and meeting preparation.
  • Identify, qualify, and cultivate prospective new members and donors in Pennsylvania and beyond.
  • Prepare proposals, talking points, meeting materials, and follow-up communications as needed.
  • Make or support well-planned and timely asks for philanthropic and membership support.
  • Maintain accurate records of relationship activity, strategy, and next steps in a CRM.
  • Support events, meetings, and other donor- and member-facing activities.
  • Help grow support for Commonwealth Partners and, where appropriate, its connected political action committees. What We're Looking For Required
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years in fundraising, major gifts, membership development, business development, or a related external-facing role.
  • Demonstrated success managing relationships and producing revenue or growth outcomes.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to build trust and credibility with high-capacity individuals.
  • Strong organizational skills and comfort managing a portfolio with multiple moving priorities.
  • Professional judgment, discretion, and maturity.
  • Alignment with Commonwealth Partners' mission and values. Preferred
  • Experience in major gifts fundraising or high-touch membership development.
  • Familiarity with entrepreneurs, business leaders, advocacy organizations, public policy, or political environments.
  • Experience partnering with a senior executive or principal on donor-facing work.
  • Experience with CRM systems. How We Work Commonwealth Partners is a small team, and this role is for someone who likes building order out of complexity. You will thrive here if you enjoy being useful, reliable, and ahead of the next step. The job rewards initiative, judgment, clear communication, and disciplined execution. The best person for this role is motivated by advancing important work and building genuine, long-term relationships that strengthen the organization. Compensation & Benefits
  • Salary contingent on specific skills and experience - Commonwealth Partners values and rewards excellence.
  • Unlimited Paid Time Off.
  • $700 monthly healthcare stipend.
  • 401(k) match up to 4%.
  • Short-term and long-term disability and life insurance.
  • Office parking.
  • Mobile phone and travel reimbursements.
