Job description

Job Summary
The Cardiac Cath Lab nurse is committed to the philosophy of "patients first". This individual will provide general and specialized direct and indirect patient care through the application of sound nursing practice for patients of all ages based on each specific hospital unit. Additionally, the Cardiac Cath Lab nurse will:
  • Provide services under the guidance of specialty providers in the Cardiac, Nuclear Stress lab, and Radiology departments. These procedures include but are not limited to: cardiac catheterization, cardiac implants (pacemakers, internal cardiac defibrillators, and cardiac event recorders), cardioversions, transesophageal echocardiograms (TEE), peripheral angiography and venography, general diagnostic and fluoroscopy, CT scans and bone density testing. Other specialized testing includes PET Scans, MRI, Mammography, Nuclear Medicine, Ultrasound, and more.
  • The Registered Nurse will be trained on the insertion of PICC lines/midlines and hold an active seat in the organization's VATS Team to address and monitor the quality and competence of each inserter along with policy review/renewal.
  • Radiology procedures include but are not limited to: MRI sedation, medi port access, thoracentesis, paracentesis, and other interventional radiology procedures as warranted by the radiology providers.
  • Nuclear Stress lab procedures include but are not limited to: excercise stress testing, EKG's, pharmacological stress testing, holter monitors, vascular diagnostic exams, EEG's, dobutamine stress echocardiography, dobutamine stress test, dual isotope stress test, low-level stress test, signal averaging ECG, and stress echocardiography.
  • This role is interchangeable between all 3 care areas with the expectation of flexibility depending on scheduling and the need of the departments and patients.
  • Encounters Protected Health Information (PHI) as part of the regular responsibilities.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Completion of a recognized course of study from an accredited School of Nursing. BSN preferred.
  • Excellent customer service skills.

Qualifications
  • Critical Care and/or cardiac nursing background preferred.
  • Operating room or procedure experience preferred, or willing to obtain additional education to meet performance requirements.
  • Ability to read cardiac monitors with knowledge of arrythmia treatment and prompt reporting to LIP/designated emergency personnel.
  • Must be willing to become an active member of the vascular access team.
  • Must attend all necessary annual departmental competencies.

Required Licensure or Certification
  • Must be currently licensed to practice in the State of Ohio.
  • BLS certification required
  • ACLS, PALS and/or NRP will be required within the first year of employment for appropriate units.
