Job description

Who You Are

As Director of Information Technology at Justworks, you will own the vision, execution, and continuous improvement of enterprise IT services. You'll lead teams responsible for end-user support, corporate network and collaboration platforms, endpoint and asset management, and AV - ensuring Justworkers have seamless, secure access to the tools they need to do their best work.

Reporting directly to the VP of Digital Security and IT Services, you operate as a trusted partner in strengthening Justworks' security posture through sound IT architecture, disciplined operations, and thoughtful governance. Through close partnership with our Engineering, Product, Revenue, Operations, and Corporate divisions, you'll shape an IT organization that can scale with business, enable innovations, and stay grounded in Justworks' values.

You are a strategic, people-first technology leader who blends deep expertise in enterprise IT with a strong sense of operational discipline and empathy for the employee experience. Equally comfortable setting long-term strategy and rolling up your sleeves to solve complex operational challenges, you bring a pragmatic, data-driven approach to IT leadership with a strong security mindset. You've partnered closely with security leaders to embed secure-by-design practices into identity, access, endpoint management, and service delivery. You know how to balance innovation with risk - ensuring systems are resilient, compliant, and intuitive for employees. You balance long-term strategy with short-term solutions and have a proactive approach to all IT services. You focus on solving business problems with stakeholders and leveraging advanced technology to empower employees and enable the business.

This is a high-impact leadership role where your decisions will directly influence employee productivity, security posture, and operational excellence across the company.

What You Will Work On

IT Strategy, Vision, and Business Partnership

  • Partner with senior leadership to define the IT vision, strategy, and lead execution to improve IT maturity and service reliability.
  • Serve as a trusted partner to Engineering, Revenue Operations, People Operations, and other functions, enabling business growth through scalable and reliable technology.
  • Partner with the People team, Security team, and other stakeholders to promote and support responsible AI adoption across the organization.
  • Lead enterprise-wide initiatives such as office build-outs, tooling standardization, and other technology integrations.

IT Organization Leadership and Team Development

  • Lead and develop IT teams across IT Support, Enterprise Systems, and Network & A/V, establishing clear goals, performance expectations, and career development paths for IT team members.
  • Champion documentation, knowledge sharing, and a culture of continuous improvement across IT operations.

Service Delivery, User Experience, and Operational Excellence

  • Establish and mature IT practices for software management and governance, user experience and enablement, incident and problem management, and mitigation of operational risk while providing highly available and user-friendly IT solutions.
  • Drive a customer-centric service model that improves response times, resolution quality, and employee satisfaction.
  • Develop and track KPIs related to service availability, incident response, employee experience, asset utilization, and overall operational health.

Enterprise Systems, Platforms, and Lifecycle Management

  • Own the lifecycle management of enterprise IT platforms and software, including:
    • Maintaining a comprehensive inventory of all software and assets
    • Managing access, configurations, and licenses
    • Holding vendors accountable for reliable products and services
    • Implementing automation where appropriate
    • Ensuring the high system availability and performance
  • Collaborate with Procurement, Security, and Legal to evaluate risk when introducing new tools, vendors, or architectural changes, balancing usability, security, and scalability.

Security, Identity, and Compliance

  • Partner with Security to strengthen corporate security posture and ensure enterprise IT systems are designed, operated, and monitored in alignment with Zero Trust principles.
  • Enhance identity and access management capabilities, including SSO, MFA, lifecycle automation, device compliance, and least-privilege access.
  • Ensure IT processes, documentation, and controls support audit readiness for SOC 2, ISO 27001, and other applicable data privacy requirements.

Financial Management, Vendor Governance, and Other Responsibilities

  • Own the IT operating budget, including forecasting and cost management
  • Manage vendor relationships and contract negotiations to ensure strong ROI, service quality, and cost optimization.
  • Perform additional duties and lead special projects as assigned to support evolving business needs and organizational priorities.
How You Will Do Your Work

As Director of Information Technology, how results are achieved is as important as the results themselves. Your effectiveness will be grounded in the following attributes:

Good judgment - You apply critical thinking to complex problems, assess risk thoughtfully, identify patterns and root causes, and take ownership of outcomes. You know when to move fast and when to slow down to protect the business. You understand how IT decisions impact security risk and compliance, and you proactively partner with Security to identify tradeoffs, mitigate risk, and make informed decisions that protect the business without slowing it down unnecessarily.

Resourcefulness - You take a pragmatic, can-do approach-optimizing existing tools and processes while identifying smart opportunities to improve how work gets done.

Teamwork and communication - You prioritize clear documentation, strong relationships, active listening, and cross-functional collaboration. You communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences.

Influence and leadership - You lead through trust, mentorship, and example-fostering a culture of accountability, learning, and continuous improvement. You build strong alignment between IT and Security teams, modeling shared ownership for secure, reliable systems and reinforcing a culture where security is everyone's responsibility.

Skills and knowledge - You bring strong domain expertise in enterprise IT and remain committed to learning and applying best practices to evolve systems, processes, and teams.

In addition, all Justworkers align their behaviors to our core values, known as COGIS:

  • Camaraderie - Day to day you can be seen working together toward a higher purpose. You like to have fun. You're an active listener, treat people respectfully, and have a strong desire to know and help others.
  • Openness - Your default is to be open. You're willing to share information, understand other perspectives, and consider new possibilities. You're curious, ask open questions, and are receptive to thoughts and feedback from others.
  • Grit - You demonstrate grit by having the courage to commit and persevere. You're committed, earnest, and dive in to get the job done well with a positive attitude.
  • Integrity - Simply put, do what you say and say what you'll do. You're honest and forthright, have a strong moral compass, and strive to match your words with your actions while leading by example.
  • Simplicity - Be like Einstein: "Everything should be made as simple as possible, but no simpler."
Qualifications
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in corporate IT, infrastructure, or enterprise technology.
  • 5+ years scaling distributed IT teams, ideally managing managers as a senior leader.
  • Proven experience building IT strategy, executing roadmaps, and operating IT services at scale.
  • Strong expertise in IT service management frameworks (ITIL or similar).
  • Solid experience in managing and governing software in the enterprise and addressed the Shadow IT challenges.
  • Experience owning corporate IT platforms, including identity, collaboration tools, SaaS governance, networking, and endpoint management.
  • Direct experience managing network teams to build various office networks and WiFi networks, as well as the direct experience designing and implementing audio/video capabilities for both on-site and remote environments, including company-wide all-hands
  • Demonstrated success partnering with Security to implement Zero Trust principles, MFA, and device compliance.
  • Strong working knowledge of Zero Trust architecture, identity security, endpoint security, and access governance.
  • Experience supporting audits and compliance programs such as SOC 2, ISO 27001, SOX and data privacy regulations.
  • Ability to assess risks within IT systems and translate requirements into scalable, user-friendly solutions.
  • Strong vendor and budget management experience.
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to translate technical complexity into business impact.
  • Experience supporting hybrid or distributed workforces in high-growth environments.
  • Preferred experience: company size over 1000 employees, with global offices

The base wage range for this position based in our New York City Office is targeted at $235,000-$300,000 per year.
