This job posting is for Firefighter and Fire Medic.

Starting salary may be adjusted depending on experience.
Qualifications
  1. High School Diploma or GED
  2. Current State of Alabama EMT Basic License or higher at time of application
  3. Current National Registry License, EMT Basic or higher at time of application
  4. Ability to pass a NFPA-1582 medically required physical for Firefighters and all other City of Hoover pre-employment requirements
  5. Possession of a valid driver's license and the ability to obtain/maintain a City of Hoover driver's permit
  6. Ability to comply with the Hoover Fire Department grooming standards policy.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Current Alabama Paramedic License at the time of application
  2. Possession of a current and valid Alabama Personnel Standards Commission Firefighter I Certification*

*Any candidate certified as Firefighter I will not be eligible for employment with the City of Hoover until he/she has fulfilled the three-year obligation from the graduation date(unless self-sponsored) imposed by the rules of the Alabama Personnel Standards Commission.

Responsibilities
Responds to all types of rescue, fire suppression, medical, and non-medical emergency calls, and implements actions required to save lives and property, and protect the environment; operates standard fire suppression, rescue and medical equipment safely and efficiently to achieve desired outcomes while adhering to departmental policies and applicable State or local laws and protocols; performs routine and preventive maintenance of City equipment, facilities and vehicles; following demonstration of competence, drives City vehicles as assigned in a safe manner; participates in non-emergency activities such as fire prevention inspections, public education programs, and public relations events; receives and responds to citizen requests for general information or assistance; monitors departmental radio transmissions and telephones; completes all required reports; must be willing to be trained, certified, licensed or assigned duties as deemed necessary by the department; performs other duties as directed.

FIREFIGHTER SCREENING PROCESS:
Firefighter candidates who meet the minimum requirements will be further screened through our evaluation process, which considers related work experience, education, certifications and special training. Firefighter candidate finalists will then be evaluated based on personal interviews. Not all applicants will be selected for interviews. Firefighter candidate finalists must successfully pass a fire-related physical agility test, background investigation, psychological and medical examination.
MEDICAL STANDARDS:
After a job offer has been made, but prior to beginning work with the Hoover Fire Department, candidates must pass a NFPA 1582 qualifying medical examination. Candidates will be rejected for any condition that will prevent them from performing in a reasonable manner, with or without accommodation, the duties of Firefighter.
