Position Summary: The Sustaining Engineer I will support the maintenance and improvement of existing products to ensure quality and performance. The responsibilities include assisting in troubleshooting production issues, implementing design changes, and collaborating with Quality, Operations, and R&D teams. This position will help conduct root cause analysis, support value engineering projects, and optimize manufacturing processes. Additionally, they document engineering changes using SOLIDWORKS and PLM systems, ensuring products meet customer and engineering requirements.

FLSA: Exempt

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in troubleshooting and identifying the root cause for production issues of all firearms products.
  • Implement product or assembly improvements, modifications, and design enhancements through drawing and model changes to existing product using SOLIDWORKS and Agile PLM system.
  • Participate in the transition of new products from Research and Development to production.
  • Track tasks and projects along with the Engineering Lead or Supervisor using monday.com boards, spreadsheets, and personal notes.
  • Execute value engineering efforts.
  • Work closely with R&D, Quality Assurance, and Operations teams to coordinate and communicate changes and improvements. Support the teams in ensuring that designs are feasible and optimized for manufacturing.
  • Participate in PPI (Product and Process improvement) efforts.
  • Review and disposition of non-conforming materials for production. Coordination with operations and manufacturing regarding rework processes as needed.
  • Participate in 5s workplace organizational activities and maintain the area in good working order through sustainment activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Education/Experience & Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent technical discipline with 0-3 years of previous experience.
  • Must be proficient using Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint as well as SOLIDWORKS. Familiarity with data analysis programs.
  • Must be able to clearly, concisely, and accurately convey ideas and information to others, both verbally and in written form.
  • High level of technical expertise required.
  • Basic knowledge of manufacturing capabilities of machined, injection molded, MIM (Metal Injection Molded), and stamped components.
  • Eagerness to learn and adapt to new challenges.
  • Ability to clearly present technical information to non-technical personnel.

Working Conditions:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working at a computer using a keyboard and mouse performing repetitive tasks.
  • Ability to open file cabinets, reach with hands and arms, bend, and twist, lift and move files.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Must wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) where required.
  • Must comply with all work exposure EH&S training requirements and adhere to SIG SAUER Inc. Security Mandates.
