Job description

Mechanical Engineer
Position Description
The Mechanical Engineer will investigate, design, prototype, test, validate, and support the production of firearms and firearm accessories. This role will work within established engineering and manufacturing standards at ZEV Technologies while also contributing to the development of new standards, processes, and innovative product solutions for future programs. The engineer will collaborate cross-functionally with manufacturing, quality, product development, and operations teams to ensure products meet performance, reliability, manufacturability, and regulatory requirements.
Job Responsibilities
  • Design and develop firearms, and firearm accessories from concept through production release
  • Create detailed 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, assemblies, and bills of materials
  • Conduct engineering analysis including tolerance stack-ups, thermal analysis, stress analysis, and design-for-manufacturing reviews
  • Develop and execute test plans for validation, durability, safety, reliability, and performance testing
  • Analyze test data and provide recommendations for design improvements and corrective actions
  • Support prototype builds and transition products into manufacturing
  • Collaborate with machinists, manufacturing engineers, suppliers, and quality teams to optimize product manufacturability and assembly efficiency
  • Participate in root cause analysis and troubleshooting of product or manufacturing issues
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable industry standards, regulations, and internal quality requirements
  • Create and maintain engineering documentation including drawings, specifications, work instructions, test reports, and engineering change orders (ECOs)
  • Assist with continuous improvement initiatives related to product performance, cost reduction, manufacturability, and production efficiency
  • Support new product development timelines and project milestones while managing multiple projects simultaneously
  • Participate in hands-on testing, product evaluations, and range testing activities
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
  • Work effectively in a collaborative team environment emphasizing continuous learning, innovation, and cross-functional support
Job Qualifications
  • Proficiency with a modern CAD system (preferably SolidWorks)
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite or Google Workspace
  • Demonstrated mechanical design ability in previous roles or projects
  • Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles including materials, machining processes, GD&T, and tolerance analysis
  • Experience with prototyping and manufacturing processes such as CNC machining, sheet metal, additive manufacturing, and assembly methods
  • Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to interpret and create engineering drawings and technical documentation
  • Experience with product testing, data collection, and validation methods
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects
  • Efficient workflow management to meet project timelines and budgets
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment emphasizing continuous learning and cross training
  • Lead Engineer experiance preferred
  • Experience successfully managing projects from start to finish, including delegating tasks efficiently
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma methodologies desired
  • Familiarity with firearms platforms, especially pistols, or related products preferred
  • Basic understanding of FEA, CFD, or simulation tools preferred
  • Hands-on mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability preferred
Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent work experience
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs occasionally and navigate stairs to testing areas
  • Ability to safely participate in product testing and range activities
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced product development and manufacturing environment
