Job description

Walther Manufacturing is looking for a Senior Design Engineer with experience in the field of firearm design and development. This position will have the overall responsibility for the design of new products and the redesign of existing products
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Responsible for leading and mentoring design engineering work functions including 3D Modeling, Mechanical Drawings, Project Timelines, Validation Plans, Design for Manufacturability, & Simulation (FEA and dynamic).
  • Lead design of new firearms platforms, components, and accessories
  • Lead cross-functional teams and mentor junior engineers
  • Design, prototype, and test various firearms and firearms-related accessories
  • Design products to meet all requirements
  • Present design reviews and test results for management and stakeholders
  • Work with Product Development/Sales and Marketing team to define new products
  • Interact with Manufacturing, Quality, and suppliers to define production standards and documents
  • Coordinate with Purchasing, Quality, Sales, Manufacturing, Accounting, and Marketing
  • Support product from design through launch
  • Support manufacturing with design optimization and production test procedures
  • Support and Implement changes from VA/VE activities
  • Perform other responsibilities as deemed appropriate or necessary by management

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
  • Five or more years' experience in design engineering in a manufacturing setting
  • Extensive knowledge in designing firearms
  • Proficient in the use of SolidWorks; Simulation experience preferred
  • Knowledge of Design & Process FMEA, DVPR, Error-Proofing, VA/VE and Root Cause Analysis; LEAN methodologies and Six Sigma knowledge preferred
  • Proficiency with GD&T per ASME Y14.5
  • Ability to read and interpret documents including reports, specifications, and standards
  • Ability to solve complex problems and communicate information to managers, peers, suppliers, and subordinates
  • Perform other responsibilities as deemed appropriate or necessary by management
