Job description

Title: Equipment Design Drafter Location: Independence, MO Salary: $70,800 - $84,200 Schedule: 980 schedule Website: Winchester.com Focus: The Equipment Design Drafter supports design and engineering teams by preparing precise 2D and 3D drawings, models, and documentation using CAD software. This position requires strong knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) to ensure all designs accurately communicate functional intent, manufacturability, and compliance with applicable standards. The drafter plays a key role in translating conceptual designs into production-ready documentation that supports efficient fabrication and assembly. Equipment Design Drafter Essential Job Functions:
  • Create technical drawings, manufacturing schematics, and 2D and 3D digital models of mechanical equipment designs, using measurements, specifications, and additional data from the engineering team.
  • Collect initial drawings, calculations, and design ideas from engineers, and combine all relevant data into coherent and complete initial design models for review and modification.
  • Annotate and verify all numerical designations and specifications in technical drawings and schematics, using both CAD programs and manual calculations when necessary.
  • Provide support to the engineering team as needed by creating technical drawings and digital models within deadlines and utilizing multiple methods to ensure deliverables include all relevant design details.
  • Assist in ongoing projects to standardize and unify design standards by participating in meetings and preparing presentation materials as necessary.
Equipment Design Drafter Minimum Requirements:
  • Associate degree* in Drafting or related discipline.
  • Minimum 3 years of recent related experience; mechanical manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Professional certification in mechanical drafting and CREO experience Preferred.
  • Proficient with Inventor and SolidWorks.
  • Ability to apply American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Y14.5-2009 Dimension and Tolerance standards.
  • Must possess excellent analytical, communication, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.
Location-Specific Requirements:
  • Must have a valid US Driver's License.
  • This position requires access to ITAR controlled technical data, and as such, employment will be contingent upon the candidate's ability to access ITAR controlled technical data pursuant to an export license approved by the Directorate of Defense Trade Controls if required.
  • This position requires successful vetting as an Employee Possessor in accordance with U.S. Department of Justice and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
  • This position requires successful vetting for unescorted access in accordance with U.S. Army and Department of Defense access policies.
