Job description

Our fire watch is a designated Rayonier employee who monitors the hot work area for fires while work is being performed and for 1 hour after its completion. This position helps our maintenance department at the St. Maries Complex's to be in compliance with our Hot Work Permit Program to prevent possible loss and injury from fire. This position works day shift hours on weekends only and does not come with any benefits.
The hourly rate for this position is $26.63 per hour.
Basic Job Functions
  • The fire watch shall have fire extinguishing equipment readily available and shall be trained in its use.
  • Maintain continuous watch over hot work activity during and for 1 hour after work has been completed.
  • Fire watch must stay on location during lunch and breaks unless properly relieved by another fire watch.
  • Monitor adjacent areas for fires.
  • Ensure the area is clean and free of combustibles and wet down as appropriate.
  • Extinguish small, controllable fires with extinguishing equipment available in hot work area.
  • Activate emergency response procedures if an uncontrollable fire occurs.
  • Sign the hot work permit 1 hour after the work is complete and re-posting signed permit in hot work area after the hot work and mandatory 1-hour monitoring period is complete.
  • If smoke or fire starts at any point during fire watch or monitoring the fire watch monitoring time starts over.
  • Must Have a supervisor or lead find another trained person to relieve him/her if the designated Firewatch individual must leave for any reason.

  • Maintain compliance with all St. Maries Complex environmental & safety rules and regulations.

  • Safe working habits
  • Good attendance
  • Knowledge of incipient fire training preferred.
