We are seeking an Armed Public Safety Officer to help keep our community safe. We support Emory Healthcare's mantra of "We're all in this together." Each service has been personally developed for the purpose of exceeding your service expectations.  This individual will:

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Patrols facilities and property make observations to detect unauthorized persons, activities, unsafe conditions, and ensure life safety standards are maintained. 
  • Maintains appropriate communication with Supervisors, fellow Officers, Security Operations Center and Law Enforcement to report crimes, incidents, and safety related irregularities.
  • Intervene in disputes between individuals by using verbal de-escalation techniques and skills to diffuse potentially violent patient, employee, or visitor situations.
  • Investigates and document incidents through both written and electronic format as required: Safety hazards, incidents and criminal activities to Public Safety Leadership, - Controls access to restricted organizational properties and verifies the admittance of authorized individuals.
  • Escorts people/property to desired destination when safety of property or individuals is a concern.
  • Assists with parking and security during special events and provides visitors with directions and security information. Performs security services and dispatcher duties when assigned.
  • Participates in activities not directly related to Security operations as approved by Security Management.
  • These may include transport and release of bodies from the morgue; patient escort; elevator recall checks; monthly fire extinguisher, panic alarm, and intercom checks; and special event setups. Interviews and investigates individuals involved in suspicious or illegal activities. 
  • Detains unauthorized individuals in compliance with state and federal law Officers are required to use force when appropriate to protect patients, staff and visitors at an Emory Healthcare facility.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Exteranal candidates must have a minimum of Two (2) consecutive years of armed security, military, or law enforcement experience within the last 7 years.
  • Must have Possess(ed): a. A POST certification; OR b. Have been registered through a military (DD214 or current Military ID); OR - All active, reserve, retired or honorable discharged military personnel will meet the licensing/certification requirement
  • c. Federal, state, or local licensing firearms certification (Department of Homeland Security, NASA, NRA, GBI, or Secretary of State). 
  • Internal candidates must meet a minimum of eight (8) consecutive months as a Public Safety Officer (PSO) to be considered 
  • Must successfully complete the Basic Security Officer and Firearms course mandated by the Secretary of State within 3 months post-hire.
  • Must be able to successfully complete training to carry non-lethal weapons such as a Taser (CED) and/or a baton within 3 months post-hire
  • Must possess a valid Driver's License; while a clean driving record is not required, applicants should have no recent history of serious traffic violations.
  • Must pass a psychological exam.
  • Must obtain IAHSS Basic certification within 12 months.
  • Obtain a BLS Certification within 12 months.
  • Complete FEMA IS 100, 200, 700 & 800 within six (6) months.
