As a professional services firm we are seeking a Senior Fire Protection Engineer to join our growing North America Fire Protection Engineering Team. We are better together. Your role as a senior contributor on our professional consulting services team is to work independently on large projects of high complexity, and as a leader of a team or project through all phases of a project lifecycle. You are responsible for assisting with the development and growth of a fire protection engineering group equipped with up-to-date engineering and design tools and innovations, technical and supervisory capabilities and operating procedures to successfully and efficiently execute projects and consulting services resulting in client satisfaction and on-time delivery.
Your Key Responsibilities
  • Responsible for large projects of high complexity.
  • Conduct building/fire/life safety code reviews and analyses.
  • Prepare and present technical reports and presentations.
  • Engage in design development through sketches, electronic models, diagrams, and other formats.
  • Lead project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants, owner and contractor, subcontractors, and vendors.
  • Participate in client meetings, value analysis, and basic cost estimating.
  • Provide direct supervision to assigned staff; develop staff skills and abilities by providing guidance and mentoring to strengthen technical abilities.
  • Conduct quality assurance and quality control on own projects and projects of peers.
  • Assist in the development of new standards and specifications for the fire engineering group.
  • Develop project scope, budget, and design approach for projects of various sizes and complexities.
  • Assist with Business Development activities, including proposal development, presentations, etc.
  • Oversee and manage multiple concurrent projects.

Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Requisite knowledge, interpretation, and application of Building codes and NFPA standards. Familiarity with Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC) is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of fire suppression and fire alarm systems, both design and commissioning preferred.
  • Checks the work of others for accuracy and completeness and manages time to meet project budget and schedule.
  • Participates and collaborates in project team setting with internal and external clients.
  • Strong technical writing, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Requires understanding of Microsoft Office Suite, Revit, AutoCAD.
  • Experience with CFD modeling software (i.e. FDS, ASCOS) is preferred, but not required.

Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Fire Protection Engineering or related engineering discipline. Masters in Fire Protection preferred, but not required.
Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience. Experience as a Qualified Fire Protection Engineer (QFPE) on Federal projects preferred.
Registered Professional Engineer (P.E.) who has passed the fire protection engineering examination administered by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying required. Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

Location
Our Fire Protection Engineers are currently located in Burlington, Massachusetts; Stamford, Connecticut; Baltimore, Maryland; Atlanta, Georgia; and Orlando, Florida. As a Senior Fire Protection Engineer, you may choose to join the existing FPE Staff in one of these offices or to work in one of our over 200 offices across the United States. The West Coast has been identified as a primary area for strategic growth.

Pay Range:
• Locations in MN, OH, VT, & Various CA, NY Areas-$107,100.00 - $160,700.00 Annually
• Locations in CO, HI, IL, MD & Various CA, NJ Areas-$117,800.00 - $176,800.00 Annually
• Locations in WA, DC & Various CA, MA areas-$126,400.00 - $189,600.00 Annually
• Locations in NYC & CA (Bay Area) & NJ (RP)-$134,900.00 - $202,500.00 Annually
Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
Benefits Summary: Regular full-time and part-time employees (working at least 20 hours per week) have access to medical, dental, and vision plans, a wellness program, health saving accounts, flexible spending accounts, 401(k) plan, employee stock purchase program, life and accidental death & dismemberment (AD&D) insurance, short-term/long-term disability plans, emergency travel benefits, tuition reimbursement, professional membership fee coverage and paid family leave. Regular full-time and part-time employees will receive ten paid holidays in each calendar year. In addition, employees will be eligible to accrue vacation between 10 and 20 days per year and eligible for paid sick leave (and if more generous, in accordance with state and local law).
Temporary/casual employees have access to 401(k) plans, employee stock purchase program, and paid leave, in accordance with state and local law.
