Job description

We are looking for a Senior Engineer to join our FinOps organization who will help shape the firm's technology cost visibility, financial governance, and optimization strategy across public cloud, private cloud, and on-premises infrastructure.
As a Senior FinOps Engineer, you will be responsible for implementing and guiding the implementation of infrastructure optimization strategies, policies, and automation. You will be a key member of our FinOps team, helping to ensure efficient and cost-effective infrastructure usage.
As a Senior FinOps Engineer at BAM, you will:
  • Build and evolve the firm's technology cost visibility and optimization capabilities across public cloud and on-premises infrastructure.
  • Develop and maintain reporting, allocation, forecasting, and governance processes for infrastructure and platform spend.
  • Partner with engineering, platform, architecture, finance, procurement, and operations teams to drive cost-aware technology decisions.
  • Identify and execute opportunities for rightsizing, modernization, scheduling, commitment optimization, and lifecycle efficiency without compromising resiliency or performance.
  • Support showback/chargeback models and improve metadata, tagging, and cost attribution quality across environments.
  • Analyze and communicate cost anomalies, trend drivers, and variance explanations to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Provide pre-deployment cost estimates and help teams evaluate architecture and workload placement tradeoffs across cloud and on-prem environments.
  • Contribute to the development of automation, APIs, and internal tooling for cost management, reporting, and governance.
  • Support cost visibility and governance for AI/ML and other high-growth technology domains, including GPU and data-platform-related spend where applicable.
  • Stay current on FinOps industry trends, tooling, and standards, and help mature the firm's practices over time.

Core Tech Stack:
  • Public cloud: AWS, Azure
  • Hybrid / on-prem infrastructure: VMware, Nutanix, storage and virtualization platforms
  • Cost and financial management: Cloudability, Apptio, Flexera, native cloud cost tools, or similar
  • Analytics and reporting: SQL, Python, Power BI, Tableau, Superset
  • IT asset / service management: Jira Asset/Service Management, ServiceNow, or similar
  • Automation and integration: REST APIs, scripting, data pipelines, policy automation
  • AI / data platforms: familiarity with cost drivers for GPU, model inference, data platforms, and related services

To be considered a good cultural fit, you must be:
  • An ambitious self-starter.
  • Eager to grow in the field of FinOps.
  • Driven towards financial efficiency and optimization.
  • A very strong and effective communicator.
  • Capable of multitasking and excelling in a fast-paced trading environment.
  • A problem solver; adept at developing quick and sound analytical solutions to complex issues.

To be considered a good technical fit, you must have:
  • 5+ years of experience in infrastructure engineering, cloud/platform operations, FinOps, or technology cost management.
  • Strong understanding of AWS and Azure, along with familiarity with private cloud / on-premises infrastructure and associated cost drivers.
  • Experience with cost management, billing, reporting, and optimization tooling across cloud and enterprise environments.
  • Strong Python and SQL skills for automation, analysis, and reporting.
  • Experience building dashboards and analyses for engineering, finance, and leadership stakeholders.
  • Experience with budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, allocation, and showback/chargeback concepts.
  • Ability to assess and communicate cost, performance, and resiliency tradeoffs in architecture and workload placement decisions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate between technical and financial audiences.

Bonus points for:
  • FinOps Foundation certification(s) or equivalent practical experience
  • AWS and/or Azure certifications
  • Experience with hybrid infrastructure cost transparency, including private cloud, virtualization, storage, networking, and hardware lifecycle planning
  • Experience with reservation / commitment strategy, enterprise agreements, or vendor financial analysis
  • Familiarity with FOCUS or other standardized cost and usage data models
  • Experience with AI/ML platform cost management or using AI to improve FinOps workflows
