  • JOB DESCRIPTION: Career and Technical Education Building Trades Instructor/ Residential Carpentry

The Building Trades Instructor will instruct residential carpentry classes from beginning to advanced level students and other curriculum related to the Building Trades program.
Examples of Duties:
Utilize a variety of effective and professional teaching techniques and methods to assist students in attaining the performance objectives of the Building Trades program;
Implement lessons to teach skills required to master carpentry and related competencies; including a statement of the student performance objectives to be achieved;
Provide group and individual instruction using effective teaching strategies, instructional materials and equipment;
Maintain an organized, safe work environment
Provide immediate supervision to all students while they are in the building;
Submit a report of the total number of hours of training the student received and the related skills achieved, and make recommendations for certificates of completion upon culmination of a student's training (if applicable);
Accurately and punctually submit to CTE Coordinator all forms and information needed for attendance accounting and grade reporting;
Prepare students for entry-level employment, advanced training, or career advancement;
Attend staff meetings and other such meetings as required by the high school administration;
Provide effective and cooperative liaison between the school, business industry, apprenticeship programs and the general community;
Perform related duties, as assigned.
REQUIRED EDUCATION:
High School Diploma
REQUIRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND/OR CREDENTIALS:
Possession of a valid Colorado Vocational Education Teaching Credential in Carpentry, or be eligible to apply for the credential by meeting the education/experience requirements of the state of Colorado.
: Possess or be willing to work to obtain a contractor's license.
Valid Class C Driver's License
Fingerprint clearance
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of all aspects of the building industry; carpentry theory and applications in the following areas:
1. Woodworking;
2. Framing;
3. Finish work;
4. Cabinet layout and construction;
5. Roofing;
6. Exterior siding applications;
7. Hanging doors and windows;
8. Shooting grades;
9. Interior applications (drywall hanging, taping, texturing, etc.);
10. Carpentry tools (power tools, skill saws, etc.)
11. Flooring;
12. Curriculum and instructional practices;
13. Current industry trends, methodology and practices.
Ability to:
Teach classes relating to all aspects of carpentry;
Teach entry level job skills;
Teach employability skills (behavior, dress, phone, etc.);
Safely and effectively operate & teach how to use a wide range of carpentry tools and equipment;
Apply the principles of behavior modification with an emphasis on positive reinforcement & student safety;
Provide instruction which results in student success;
Communicate ideas and concepts clearly and concisely in both oral and written form;
Maintain and improve professional skills and knowledge;
Be flexible and receptive to change;
Organize and prioritize duties and responsibilities;
Adapt to periodic heavy workload;
Maintain regular and reliable attendance;
Organize environment and instruction to facilitate learning;
Write lesson plans for individual and group instruction;
Use diverse teaching strategies to meet students' learning styles, abilities, and interests;
Assist in recruitment of students.
