Job description

Schedule:  Part-Time (Monday-Friday - Day Shift)

Main Function:

  • The Financial Assistance Representative will be responsible for working with patients via telephone to answer billing questions and secure payment or payment arrangements for self-pay accounts working in conjunction with UR Medicine Affiliate Billing Office Customer Service Team.
  • The Financial Assistance Representative will be responsible for providing information regarding the system's payment policy, alternative financing, insurance options, state programs, and financial assistance program.
  • The Financial Assistance Representative will be responsible for processing all Financial Assistance Applications for the UR Medicine Affiliate Billing Office.  This includes responding to written requests and inquiries from patients, all Southern Region staff and the CBO related to the Financial Assistance program within the UR Medicine Affiliate Billing Office.
  • The Financial Assistance Representative will be responsible to receive, log and respond to all Financial Assistance inquiries and requests from both internal and external customers concerning the status of the accounts and unpaid balances for services rendered the EPIC system and across Service Area 111.
  • The Financial Assistance Representative must meet the turnaround time frames of the Financial Assistance Law as well as provide accurate and timely reports to the CBO Management.
  • The position requires a broad knowledge base about medical billing, rules and regulations of third-party billing. In addition, the position requires experience among the Federal insurance programs as well as the Federal Poverty Guidelines.
  • The position requires a competency level in the use of verification and third party and government billing systems as well as knowledge and understanding of the Fair Credit Act. Lives the CARES values and promotes the Thompson Way.

Qualifications:

  • Energetic individual who demonstrates the customer service qualities. 
  • Familiarity with statutes and regulations that impact collection of accounts. 
  • Familiarity with the state and federal regulations pertaining to financial Assistance and collection practices.
  • Must be an effective communicator and listener; persuasive; self-motivated; shows initiative; assertive, persistent, inquisitive, be patient and respectful.

Education:

  • High School Graduate or equivalent with 3 years’ work-related experience required
  • Associates Degree preferred.

Experience:

  • 2 to 3 years of previous medical billing or collection experience required.
  • Familiarity with Financial Assistance and FPL’s
  • Familiarity with collection practices.
  • Excellent public/patient relations and communication skills.
  • Skills in using computers including Excel and Word required.
  • Skills in using web-based patient financial applications/systems.

Pay Range: $18.71 - $23.00

Starting Range: Based on experience
