The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.

Responsibilities:

The Financial Analyst II conducts specialized and highly complex analysis of financial data in support of various financial functions of Hajim School of Engineering and Applied Science, reporting to the Director of Finance, Hajim School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. These responsibilities include budgeting, forecasting, building financial models, assisting with financial planning, conducting research and analysis, and compiling reports presentations, and visuals of data analyzed for the supported areas. Provides senior management with the analysis and information needed to make timely operational, financial, and strategic decisions. Prepares conclusions and forecasts and makes recommendations based on research/data. Meets with project participants (e.g., Department Chairs, faculty, staff, administrative personnel, vendors, etc.) to formulate, recommend improvements, and/or update projects and systems, databases, etc.
A primary responsibility of the Financial Analyst II is to manage the databases and systems to support sponsored research administration and operations, assist in the cross-training of staff, and implement procedures in the utilization of these systems. In doing so, the Financial Analyst II will gather information, analyze and interpret data to be compliant with institutional policies to complete projects and appropriately disseminate information to key personnel. The Financial Analyst II will recommend protocols/procedures to Director of Finance and department Administrator and Chair of their caseload and implement methods or systems for streamlined workflow or improvements.
This position will support the academic research activity in Hajim with multiple accounts (operating, new faculty start-ups, grants, gifts, and other special accounts) based on need within the school. Serves as the primary accounting and contact person for a 20-25 faculty caseload in matters related to grant budgets and expenditures.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Assists Grants and Contracts Administrators with budgets for grant proposals. Works with the Office of Research and Project Administration (ORPA) to set up and maintain funded projects. Assists senior management to project expenditures required for annual reports to funding agencies. Assists with the annual and end-of-project financial reports used to close out grants for Office of Research Accounting and Costing Standards (ORACS).
  • Manages grant budgets and acts as a liaison between principal investigators, ORPA, and ORACS for all grant related activities and requirements. Assists with grant closeout and extension request process. Responsible for account reconciliation, variance analysis, financial forecasts. Conducts specialized financial analysis and research, such as program income statements and decision support analysis. Makes recommendations and provide decision support to senior leadership (Dean, Department Managers, Department Chairs) and principal investigators based on data analytics of financial position of their research portfolio.
  • Responsible for the data integrity of accounting systems to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting. Assists with audits to accounting functions; monitoring expenditures and other related activities to ensure compliance with internal and sponsor regulations. Works with the department staff on summer salary for faculty in their caseload. Meets regularly with the department Administrator and Chair of their caseload to discuss status of finances. Assists accounting staff and other members of Hajim. Consults with university auditors on policy and procedural questions.
  • Supports the Director of Finance with the budget development for Hajim School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. Manages accounts and prepares reports tailored to the needs of Hajim School including forecasting expenditures to start-up accounts, operating budgets, grants, gifts, and other special accounts for supervisor. Assists with the academic year salary recovery reports.
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, accounting or finance functional area and 2 years in academic department/university accounting required
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Must possess strong knowledge of Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook), and be comfortable working within web-based systems preferred.
  • Must also be familiar with accounting software such as Workday and IORA preferred.
  • Ideal candidate will have excellent accounting skills preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, and analytical skills are essential preferred.
  • Position calls for professionalism, confidentiality, tact, diplomacy, and organization preferred.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

  • CLASP certification preferred or must be completed within one year of hiring preferred.
