Job description

About Gap Inc.

At Gap Inc., we create culture as much as we create clothes. Our ambition is to become a high-performing house of iconic American brands that shape culture.

Our portfolio—Old Navy, Gap, Banana Republic, and Athleta—each brings a distinct point of view to how we show up in the world and serve our customers.

Old Navy democratizes style with quality and value for all. Gap champions originality through essential pieces that celebrate individuality. Banana Republic is rooted in a spirit of discovery, creating modern pieces inspired by craftsmanship and travel. Athleta champions the Power of She through confidence, strength, and movement.

We’re driven by a shared purpose: to bridge gaps—between people, perspectives, and possibilities—to create a better world.

We’re building a team that performs at a high level—people who think boldly, take ownership, and turn ideas into impact. If you’re ready to learn fast and help shape what’s next, you’ll fit right in.

About the role

Gap Inc. is seeking a seasoned communications leader to shape and elevate the storytelling around our company’s financial strategy, performance, and long term value creation. This role serves as the communications partner to our Finance organization, responsible for crafting clear, compelling narratives that support employee understanding, investor confidence, and the company’s overall reputation. The ideal candidate brings strong financial acumen, deep experience supporting publicly traded companies, and a solid understanding of the retail and apparel industry. This person understands the rhythms and sensitivities of public company communications—earnings cycles, disclosure expectations, and high stakes messaging—and can translate complex financial and industry insights into accessible, human centered communications for internal and external audiences.

What you'll do
  • Evolve Gap Inc.’s financial narrative, ensuring clarity, consistency, and alignment across internal and external communications.
  • Support strategic storytelling for quarterly financial cycles, including contributing to the development of earnings scripts, press releases, and Q&A documents.
  • Translate financial results, performance drivers, and strategy into meaningful, engaging narratives that help employees understand business performance and their role in driving it.
  • Develop and manage internal communications programs, including content for enterprise wide town halls, leadership forums, financial updates, and other internal moments.
  • Support the CFO with speeches, presentations, talking points, and thought leadership content.
  • Partner closely with Finance, Investor Relations and Media Relations to ensure financial messaging is accurate, compliant, and strategically positioned.
  • Engage with business and financial media in partnership with Media Relations to reinforce credibility and market confidence.
  • Provide communications counsel to ensure alignment with legal considerations and public company requirements.
  • Build strong cross functional relationships to ensure financial communications are timely, consistent, and integrated across teams and audiences.
Who you are
  • 10+ years of experience in corporate communications, preferably with an emphasis on financial, corporate, or executive communications.
  • Experience working within or supporting a publicly traded company, including familiarity with earnings cycles, disclosure requirements, and market‑sensitive communications.
  • Strong financial acumen, with the ability to interpret financial statements and distill complex data into clear and compelling narratives.
  • Knowledge of the retail and apparel industry a plus including market trends, competitive dynamics, and business drivers.
  • Experience partnering with or managing business and financial media.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills—able to convey complexity with clarity, precision, and human relevance.
  • Proven success advising senior executives and navigating fast‑paced, high‑visibility communications moments.
  • Confident, calm, and collaborative in a highly matrixed, fast‑paced environment.
  • Exceptional emotional intelligence (EQ) and diplomacy skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, Journalism, Business, or related field; advanced
    degree (MBA, CPA) a plus.

Preferred Attributes:

  • Strong financial fluency and command of financial statements and drivers with ability to translate operating results into clear narratives
  • Familiarity with investor communications and engagement
  • Ability to influence senior stakeholders and drive strategic communications initiatives.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, matrixed organization.
