We’re a high-save organization helping nearly 34,000 animals in our community each year and caring for approximately 10,000 across both of our campuses. through sheltering, adoptions and community-centered programs and services that help find pets loving homes and keep them there.

We are seeking a Finance Associate to join our team at our Reno Campus.

Base Pay Range:

Base pay range is calculated by position title, and experience. It is determined within the departmental budget. Changes to the range are approved by the CEO.

To be considered, candidates must possess demonstrated experience with accounts payable/receivable, proficiency in accounting software, strong cash handling and reconciliation skills, knowledge of financial reporting and audit support, the ability to collaborate effectively across teams to resolve discrepancies, and strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain accurate financial records.Primary Purpose:                    

As a Finance Associate, you contribute to Nevada Humane Society’s (NHS) mission by ensuring the financial operations that support lifesaving programs run accurately and efficiently. Under the direction of the Chief Financial Officer, this role provides administrative and operational support to the finance department, including accounts payable processing, financial reporting support, and maintenance of financial records.

Your work helps ensure responsible stewardship of donor contributions and organizational resources, enabling NHS to provide compassionate care for pets, find them loving homes, and save lives. Through accurate financial processes and strong organizational support, the Finance Coordinator plays an important role in sustaining the programs and services that advance NHS’s mission to care for pets, find them homes and save lives.

Position-Specific Requirements
  1. Experience in accounts payable, bookkeeping, finance administration, or related financial support role.
  2. Experience entering invoices and processing financial transactions in an accounting or financial management system.
  3. Experience maintaining financial records and supporting documentation with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  4. Experience preparing financial reports, transaction summaries, or similar administrative financial documentation.
  5. Experience handling cash, deposits, or point-of-sale reporting in accordance with financial procedures and internal controls.
Position-Specific Responsibilities
  1. Process invoices, reimbursements, vendor payments and incoming donations; maintain accurate records in the accounting system.
  2. Accurately record all cash, check, electronic and credit card receipts in the accounting system, ensuring proper coding to programs.
  3. Prepare and verify bank deposits, ensuring all funds received are counted, documented, and deposited in a timely manner according to internal policies.
  4. Coordinate with the Philanthropy team to ensure accurate recording of contributions and donor restrictions.
  5. Reconcile credit card statements and other balance sheet accounts monthly to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  6. Assist in preparing monthly financial statements. Budget-to-actual reports and helping prepare financial documentation.
  7. Complete reconciliations required for month-end close, ensuring deadlines are met and financial statements reflect accurate balances.
  8. Support annual audit activities, maintain documentation for regulatory compliance, and follow internal financial policies.
  9. Work with Philanthropy, operations, and program teams to resolve discrepancies related to donations and program spending.
  10. Assist with payroll administration, employee expense reports and other finance related administrative tasks.
