Position Overview
As an Architect Intern on our Design team, you’ll support the full lifecycle of multi-family development work, from pre-design and tax credit application drawings through construction documentation and construction administration. You’re a developing design professional who can apply independent judgment using standard architectural techniques, procedures, and criteria, while receiving technical guidance on complex issues and supervisory approval on project plans. You’ll collaborate closely with internal teams and third-party partners, including structural, MEP, and civil consultants. Strong proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit is required.
Key Responsibilities
Pre-Design
Provide preliminary design drawings for assigned state and federally funded tax credit applications
Apply fundamental urban planning, landscape, and civil engineering practices to depict community size, unit quantities, and amenities accurately
Prepare scale drawings of site plans, building layouts, and elevations
Partner with Estimating to ensure designs align with the construction budget
Collaborate with internal clients and departments to define functional and spatial requirements
Develop project design drawings in alignment with the Architect’s design parameters
Coordinate documentation of existing structures for renovation projects
Construction Documentation
Translate schematic drawings into complete construction documents
Attend project-related meetings and coordinate next steps with internal stakeholders
Verify interdepartmental requirements and commitments to agencies
Coordinate with Mechanical, Plumbing, Electrical, Structural, Civil Engineering, and other consultants during design and construction phases
Read and write specifications with accuracy and clarity
Develop project design drawings in alignment with the Architect’s design parameters
Construction Administration
Assist the Architect with reviewing shop drawings and submittals
Attend supervised jobsite visits and support field coordination needs
General
Support internal department schedules and project demands for assigned work
Travel up to 10% or less
Take on other duties as assigned to support team goals and project success
Qualifications
Currently enrolled in an architectural curriculum
Experience designing multi-family, hotel, assisted living, or other multi-story habitable units preferred
Knowledge of general construction practices
Strong organizational, project management, and planning skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks
Analytical problem-solving skills and sound judgment
Technical Skills
AutoCAD required
Revit required
Proficiency with MS Office tools
Excellent design and drafting skills using computer-aided design tools
Communication and Reasoning Skills
Ability to read, write, interpret, and analyze complex documents
Ability to respond to time-sensitive design and construction inquiries
Ability to communicate persuasively using clear, innovative approaches
Comfort applying fundamentals of geometry and working with ratios, percentages, and proportions
Ability to apply logic and scientific thinking to practical and technical challenges
