Position Summary

The Tax Consulting Intern supports the Canadian Sales Tax team with GST/HST, QST, and PST overpayment reviews, audit support, and refund filings. This internship is designed for students or recent graduates seeking hands-on exposure to Canadian indirect tax compliance and consulting. The intern will work closely with experienced consultants to analyze data, conduct basic tax research, and assist with client deliverables while developing foundational professional skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist with Canadian sales tax reviews by supporting data analysis and introductory tax research.

  • Import, organize, and validate client data used for recovery and exposure analysis.

  • Review vendor invoices and help locate supporting documentation.

  • Enter, organize, and maintain data using Microsoft Excel and Word.

  • Support the preparation of client reports and tax refund claim documentation.

  • Assist with vendor communications for refund follow-ups, under supervision.

  • Research basic Canadian commodity tax questions and summarize findings for the team.

  • Complete assigned tasks under the guidance of senior consultants and managers.

  • Perform other duties as assigned to support team and client needs.

Education and Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field.

  • Prior coursework or exposure to taxation, accounting, or finance preferred; prior work experience not required.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).

  • Exposure to SAP, Oracle, or other ERP systems is a plus but not required.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Detail-oriented with an interest in data analysis and problem-solving.

  • Willingness to learn, take direction, and collaborate in a team environment.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Work Schedule: Regular, 40 hours/week
