Job description

About Rivian
Rivian is on a mission to keep the world adventurous forever. This goes for the emissions-free Electric Adventure Vehicles we build, and the curious, courageous souls we seek to attract.
As a company, we constantly challenge what's possible, never simply accepting what has always been done. We reframe old problems, seek new solutions and operate comfortably in areas that are unknown. Our backgrounds are diverse, but our team shares a love of the outdoors and a desire to protect it for future generations.
Role Summary
Internship Term: Fall 2026
Rivian internships are experiences optimized for student candidates. To be eligible, you must be an undergraduate or graduate student in an accredited program during the internship term with an expected graduation date between December 2026 through June 2028. Rivian's Internship Program requires active student enrollment. Information regarding your expected degree completion date is collected solely to verify eligibility and determine your availability for future full-time opportunities. Rivian is an equal opportunity employer and does not use graduation dates to determine the age of applicants or as a basis for discriminatory hiring decisions.
If you are not pursuing a degree, please see our full time positions on our Rivian careers site.
Note that if your university has specific requirements for internship programs, it is your responsibility to fulfill those requirements.
This role will support our ongoing development of future Rivian vehicle products. The responsibilities of the role will include supporting our program controllers with financial analysis, forecasting, and variance commentary on our development roadmap. A candidate can expect to complete business cases on key product decisions and help shape the future of Rivian's product offerings.
Responsibilities
  • Budgeting and forecast support for one of our core Rivian vehicle products
  • Variance analysis of our R&D and product forecast through review of our monthly spend in SAP and Databricks
  • Support product decision making by gathering inputs from engineering and supply chain teams to create business cases, providing leaders with key financial metrics
  • Review ongoing product profitability targets for accuracy and performance vs target. Support the vehicle line controller in delivering target performance presentations as products move through milestones
  • Interact with others across finance to understand the inputs Rivian uses to assess profitability of our products once they reach production

Qualifications
  • Must be currently pursuing a bachelors, masters, or PhD degree at an accredited university
  • Actively pursuing a degree or one closely related in Finance, Economics, or Engineering
  • Understanding of basic financial concepts, including how to read the 3 financial statements (Income, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow)
  • Basic skills in excel and financial modeling, with preference given to experience running NPV, IRR, or payback period calculations
  • Strong interpersonal communications and a willingness to connect with team members of varying backgrounds to ask questions, understand their work, and apply financial acumen to help assess Rivian's R&D cost
  • Demonstrated experience in problem framing and solving, including the ability to operate independently, scope out potential roadblocks and gaps, and report back to leaders on findings
  • Passion for the automotive or sustainable energy industries, a self-starter mentality, and the willingness to proactively ask questions and explore new learning opportunities
