Position Summary
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The VP of Finance & Accounting (VPFA) at the Eugene Family YMCA intentionally fosters a cause-centered culture that is welcoming, genuine, hopeful, nurturing, and determined while also overseeing the internal control, compliance, and improvement of YMCA finances and business functions.
Essential Functions
  • Manage and monitor financial operations. Prepare financial reports and analyses including forecast scenarios and proforma development; ensure that all accounting reports and transactions are prepared on a timely basis
  • Complete daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and yearly tactical financial responsibilities such as personally processing AR/AP, updating and reconciling the balance sheet, closing the month and fiscal year, and completing and submitting financial reports
  • Manage, respond to, and ensure accurate completion of key annual compliance and risk mitigation reports; including the audit, 990, and various grant financial reports, etc.
  • Establish, oversee and maintain an internal control system to ensure that financial transactions are based upon established policies and procedures as required by various regulatory agencies
  • Work closely with leadership on issues that affect financial outcomes and provide guidance and recommendations to executives and leadership staff
  • In conjunction with organizational leaders, oversee the drafting and completion of timely and thorough budgets and forecasts
  • Ensure financial management of grants and timely submission of their financial reports
  • Review, update, and/or develop internal controls and financial policies
  • Oversee the operations of the finance/accounting and information systems and platforms
  • Supervise and provide leadership to assigned finance and accounting staff (including recruitment, retention, performance management and disciplinary action as appropriate); and their core functions, such as collections, third-party billing, and finances
  • Develop performance indicators for tracking strategic objectives
  • Oversee the Y's PCI compliance
  • Work closely with the CEO, and other senior leaders, to achieve the Y's strategic financial and operational goals
  • Interpret financial statements and reports; identify potential liabilities
  • Create previously unknown, strategic, or original financial approaches that allow the Y to elevate its financial sophistication, solve complex problems, and increase understanding in relation to best practices. These strategies and approaches could have a critical financial impact on the Y's overall performance and future
  • Ensure organizational finance and accounting functions are consistent with the Y's policies and procedures
  • Oversee the preparation of Requests for Proposals (RFPs) and Requests for Qualifications (RFQ) in accordance with Y policies
  • Responsible for maintaining the Y's procurement schedule for various vendors, and suppliers to ensure alignment with documented timeframes, policies, and procedures
  • Requires frequent interactions to create, negotiate, and enact strategically important agreements in ways that require tact, timeliness, and trustworthiness. These relationships and interactions entail work with key vendors, partners, volunteers, and department leaders. Relationships will include banks, lenders, funders, partners, and auditors
  • Must possess a genuine and authentic ability to engage with a very wide and diverse group of key Y stakeholders, partners, and members in ways that are caring, honest, respectful, and responsive
  • Provide excellent customer service and care for all including but not limited to internal and external customers, members, residents, visitors, clients, patrons, vendors, suppliers, members of the public, volunteers, and staff
  • Participates in various standing committees and temporary task forces as needed
  • Complete and maintain all required or supervisor-requested trainings by requested deadlines
  • Must maintain a current, valid Oregon driver's license, a DMV driving record that meets YMCA standards, and evidence of insurability throughout entire term of employment
  • Protect the organization's value by keeping information confidential always
  • Provide support to CEO and other Y employees and completes other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Economics or a related field.
  • At least 4.5 years of directly relevant accounting or finance experience managing a complex budget with multiple revenue streams or funding sources and multiple supported operations
  • At least two years of previous supervisory experience
  • Previous experience managing the core accounting functions of an organization such as GAAP accounting, accruals, cash management, forecasting, cost allocation, expense coding, and budgeting
  • Previous experience with nonprofit revenue recognition principles and restrictions
  • Executive-level understanding of accounting, budgeting, and the ability to evaluate complex financial information resulting in actionable recommendations to organizational leadership

  • Previous YMCA finance or accounting management experience
