Job description

About This Role: As the Finance Partner, R&D (Manager), you will be the finance lead supporting our clinical development programs, business development R&D modeling, and other projects as necessary. You will play a crucial role in providing program-level financial leadership combined with hands-on clinical trial financial oversight. This position ensures disciplined investment, accurate forecasting, and fosters strong cross-functional partnerships across the organization. Your financial acumen will be instrumental in guiding strategic decisions, optimizing resource allocation, and driving value for the business. You will collaborate with key stakeholders to ensure seamless integration of financial insights into our research and development endeavors, ultimately contributing to the advancement of innovative solutions.
What You'll Do:
  • Build and manage detailed clinical study budgets, including per protocol, per patient, and per country/site allocations.
  • Track trial spend across various spend categories, such as CROs, FSP/FSO, investigative sites, labs, and vendors.
  • Oversee change orders, pass-through costs, and contract modifications, partnering with Accounting for month-end close processes.
  • Monitor enrollment assumptions and cost drivers impacting forecasts.
  • Conduct variance analysis and identify financial risks to timelines or budgets.
  • Support negotiation and financial evaluation of vendor contracts.
  • Serve as the primary finance business partner for one or more development programs, understanding total program R&D spend.
  • Lead annual budgeting, quarterly forecasting, and long-range planning efforts.
  • Develop integrated program financial models, including risk-adjusted and scenario-based analyses.
  • Support portfolio prioritization and stage-gate investment decisions.
  • Provide R&D financial modeling to support business development and licensing opportunities.
  • Present financial updates, risk assessments, and investment scenarios to senior leadership.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal financial policies, strengthening forecasting accuracy and reporting processes.

Required Skills:
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field.
  • At least 5 years of finance experience, ideally in investment banking or another Pharm/Biotech company.
  • Advanced Excel and financial modeling expertise.
  • Experience with ERP and Hyperion planning systems.
  • Strong business partnering and excellent communication skills.
  • High integrity and strong attention to detail.
  • Process improvement mindset.

Preferred Skills:
  • MBA preferred.
  • Strong understanding of the drug development lifecycle.
  • Demonstrated experience with portfolio modeling.

Additional Information
The base compensation range for this role is: $109,000.00-$146,000.00
Base salary offered is determined through an analytical approach utilizing a combination of factors including, but not limited to, relevant skills & experience, job location, and internal equity.
