A Final Mile Delivery Manager oversees the last stage of the delivery process, ensuring that goods are transported efficiently from a transportation hub to the final destination, often a customer's home or business. Their responsibilities include coordinating delivery schedules, managing driver teams, optimizing routes, and resolving any delivery issues that arise. They play a crucial role in ensuring customer satisfaction by making sure deliveries are accurate, timely, and handled with care. Additionally, they often work closely with logistics partners and use technology to track deliveries and improve processes.

What are common challenges a Final Mile Delivery Manager faces, and how can they be effectively addressed?

Job description

Branch Manager – Final Mile Operations

DSS Final Mile Little Rock, Arkansas Full-Time

Position Overview:

DSS Final Mile is seeking an experienced, hands-on Facility General Manager to lead our Little Rock operation. This individual will be responsible for the overall day-to-day performance of the facility, including final-mile delivery operations, independent contractor management, dispatch and routing, warehouse activities, customer service, safety, and facility oversight.

We are looking for a strong operational leader who takes ownership, solves problems quickly, and ensures our customers consistently receive the level of service they expect.

Key Responsibilities:

· Manage the daily operations of the Little Rock facility, including dispatch, routing, warehouse activities, and final-mile deliveries.

· Ensure routes are properly staffed, dispatched, monitored, and successfully completed each day.

· Recruit, onboard, and maintain a dependable network of qualified independent contractor drivers and delivery vehicles.

· Monitor driver/contractor performance, attendance, safety, service quality, and customer requirements.

· Maintain adequate driver and vehicle capacity to support daily and anticipated delivery volume.

· Monitor routes throughout the day and quickly address delays, missed stops, damages, refused deliveries, customer issues, and other service exceptions.

· Serve as the primary operational contact for customers and maintain strong customer relationships.

· Ensure compliance with customer-specific requirements, including scanning, photographs, signatures, Proof of Delivery (POD), and other required documentation.

· Oversee the proper receiving, scanning, sorting, staging, and handling of customer freight.

· Maintain a clean, organized, secure, and safe facility.

· Ensure company safety, security, vehicle, and operational procedures are followed.

· Investigate service failures, claims, accidents, damages, and other operational issues and implement corrective action when necessary.

· Monitor key performance indicators, including on-time performance, route completion, service exceptions, claims, POD compliance, and customer complaints.

· Lead and develop dispatch and warehouse personnel while holding employees and contractors accountable for meeting performance expectations.

· Communicate significant operational issues, performance results, and resource needs to DSS senior management.

Qualifications:

· High school diploma or GED required; college degree preferred.

· 3+ years of management or supervisory experience in final-mile delivery, courier operations, transportation, logistics, distribution, or a similar environment preferred.

· Experience managing drivers, delivery routes, dispatch, or transportation operations strongly preferred.

· Experience working with independent contractor drivers is highly desirable.

· Warehouse or distribution experience is preferred.

· Knowledge of the Little Rock and Central Arkansas market is a plus.

· Experience with routing, GPS, scanning, transportation-management, and electronic POD systems preferred.

· Strong leadership, communication, organizational, customer-service, and problem-solving skills.

· Ability to manage multiple priorities and make sound decisions in a fast-paced operational environment.

What We're Looking For:

This is a hands-on operational leadership position, not a desk-only management role.

The successful candidate will understand what is happening throughout the facility, anticipate potential problems, and take action before those problems affect our customers.

We are looking for someone who is comfortable leading employees and contractors, communicating with customers, managing routes, walking the warehouse, resolving service issues, and taking ownership of the overall success of the Little Rock operation.

Compensation: Starting salary is $50,000 annually, with the potential for a higher starting salary based on the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and background in final-mile delivery, transportation, or logistics operations.
