Job description

Howmet Dover Casting is a world-class supplier of complex, investment-cast turbine airfoils and other components for the aircraft engine and industrial gas turbine industries. Howmet Dover Alloy is a world-class supplier of vacuum and air-melted nickel- and cobalt-based superalloys to aerospace, gas turbine, medical and other high-technology industrial markets.

Howmet Aerospace is currently looking a Level III Trainee (FPI) to join our Howmet Casting located in Dover, New Jersey. The work hours for this position is Day Shift

Anticipated Pay Range: $28-$35  per hour.  *Pay rates within this range are determined based on various factors including experience, education, certifications, etc.

POSITION OVERVIEW 

The Level III Trainee position was created to ensure the availability of trained personnel for the primary Level III position if needed. In the event of a Level III departure, the Level III Trainee must be positioned to assume the primary Level III position. These positions will be selected for specific methods including crystal/etch, visual/UT, fluorescent penetrant, and radiography (film & DR).

The Level III Trainee will split their time between assisting the Level III in the assigned duties of audits, technique creation and other technical functions listed below, and the remaining time will be spent performing their production function.  After hire, a training plan will be developed to bridge the gap to Secondary Level III certification.  This plan will also specify how the time will be split up between Level III tasks versus production.  After training is complete, the Secondary Level III is required to complete certification requirements per BOP 950.004.001 and pass the company’s level III examination.  After certification, the Secondary Level III will continue to work the split shift (Level III tasks and production), continuing to gain experience by working with the primary level III as part of succession planning. 

This position will be expected to work overtime as required to ensure the customer and production requirements are met. 

ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH & SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Expected to assist in the implementation of Howmet EHS value and policy statement and its accompanying principles
  • Comply with all department, facility, Corporate and Regulatory EH&S regulations
  • Wear all required personal protective equipment
  • Report all job related illness and injuries. (Per employee handbook)
  • Report all Safety, Health & Environmental concerns to your supervisor in a timely manner
  • Attend all EH&S training

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS 

Job responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following;

  • Participate and assist in internal, external, and customer audits
  • Assist in training and monitoring proficiency of the Level I and Level II NDT inspectors (OJT and Technical)
  • Assist in performing L1 and L2 audits for product conformity and process comprehension (this will require overtime and/or coming in on off-shifts to audit employees that work on off-shifts)
  • Ensure NDT processes for product criteria are met
  • Ensure NDT inspections for product criteria are met
  • Perform daily systems checks of responsible department
  • Monitor equipment availability and maintain equipment, fixtures, and tools as necessary
  • Under the guidance of the primary Level III, become responsible for developing and maintaining procedures and processes to ensure adherence to industry and customer requirements
  • Maintain required documentation and records for specific method as required
  • Interpret specifications and blueprints under the guidance of the primary Level III.
  • Complete Secondary Level III training per plan to be developed by Quality Manager and Level III. 
  • Perform tasks as assigned by the Level III and/or Quality Manager.
  • Support Manufacturing as needed with production L1 and L2 duties.

OTHER JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Technique design and approval
  • Perform required calibrations and system checks
  • Help with Level I and Level II work standards
  • Help in projects to improve work area 
  • Help prioritize and coordinate product work flow through NDT inspections
  • Check process documentation for proper technique
  • Interface with Level III for technical guidance pertaining to manufacturing for NDT issues
  • Perform L1 and L2 duties as needed
  • Assist in introducing new technology within the NDT method
  • Lead R&R studies as necessary

INTERPERSONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Frequent interaction with Engineering, Manufacturing, Customers, BU level employees, external auditors. and suppliers.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School diploma or GED from an accredited institution
  • Must be able to pass the Level III testing requirements.
  • This position supervises no other
  • Must be able to work flexible hours including night and weekends with little advanced notice
  • This position entails access to export-controlled items and employment offers are conditioned upon an applicant's ability to lawfully obtain access to such items.
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States.      Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire.  Visa sponsorship is not available for this position
  • No relocation benefit is offered for this position.  Candidates residing within a 50 miles radius of Dover NJ will only be considered
  • Experience in specific NDT method

Skills and Abilities

  • Working knowledge of specific technical NDT application
  • Ability to read, understand, and train Activity Instructions in accordance with standard procedures
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously while meeting deadlines
  • Adequate Computer Skills (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Team oriented attitude, ability to work well with others 
  • Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Completed Level II certification (NAS 410, ASNT, or similar) for method

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/EQUIPMENT USED 

  • Manufacturing environment, frequent standing and walking.
