Job Summary:
The Cardiac Catheterization Radiology Technologist delivers patient care in the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory, under the direction and supervision of the Manager and Medical Director of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory. This person functions as a cardiovascular radiological technologist and patient caregiver for adult and geriatric patients. This position helps promote quality care for patients undergoing invasive diagnostic and interventional cardiovascular and peripheral procedures. This person preferably has experience developing various types of film, recording and analyzing all types of hemodynamic waveform tracings, preparing the lab for procedures, ensuring that quality control of equipment and procedures are maintained, and reports functional deficiencies in a timely manner.
These duties are to be performed in a highly confidential manner and in alignment with the mission, values, and behaviors of Insight Hospital and Medical Center. Employees are further expected to provide a high quality of care, service, and kindness toward all patients, staff, physicians, volunteers, and guests.
Insight Employees are required to be vaccinated for COVID-19 as a condition of employment, subject to accommodation for medical or sincerely held religious beliefs.
Duties:
  • Use critical thinking skills, professional judgment, and leadership, to plan, direct and evaluate the care of the patients.
  • Operates all radiographic equipment in the cardiac cath lab, such as image digital acquisition equipment. Identifies and solves problems with the above equipment and knows resources used in solving problems.
  • Assists Cardiologists in the performance of invasive procedures such as scrubbing, equipment utilization, and hemodynamic computation.
  • Foster the professional development of unit staff through support of the orientation process and other educational activities.
  • Participates in maintaining inventory of supplies and equipment as assigned by supervisor through in-house requisitions or purchase order requests using cost-effective measures.
  • Functions as a Radiology safety person for the cardiac Cath lab. Changes film badges every two weeks. Assists the manager with monitoring film badge usage. Reinforces radiation safety to all Cath Lab personnel concerning proper distance, and shielding.
  • Provides 24-hour service for both scheduled and emergency procedures.
  • Maintain own personal professional growth and development.

Requirements:
  • Graduate of an accredited school of Radiology Technology required. Must be registered by the American Registry of Radiological Technologists. A current license in the State of Illinois of Nuclear Safety is required. Three years experience in cardiac catheterization laboratory preferred. Experience in Intra-aortic balloon counterpulsation preferred. Current certification in CPR is required. ACLS certification is required. Knowledge of basic life-threatening arrhythmia's preferred.

  • Ability to relate well to professional and non-professional staff.
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of accuracy in carrying out work duties and to cooperate effectively with others, a team player.
