Job description

Organization: FSH is a thriving youth development organization - the first to combine the power of education with the grace and discipline of figure skating to help girls transform their lives and grow in confidence, leadership, and academic achievement. Our award-winning afterschool and summer programs provide girls ages 6 to 18 from low-income communities with access to innovative education and health and wellness services that help them reach their fullest potential.ย  Our vision is for every student, regardless of socio-economic background, to acquire the foundational academic, social and leadership skills to achieve her dreams.ย 

Job Description: As part of the ICE: I Can Excel skating team, the Skating Instructor will work under the supervision of the Director of Skating. The Skating Instructor will teach from the Learn to Skate USA curriculum to enable all participants to achieve the skills necessary to either skate for fun the rest of their lives or to move competently into the U.S. Figure Skating testing and/or competitive structure.ย 

Duties:

  • Foster positive social and emotional growth in students as they participate in all FSH activitiesย 
  • Help create a safe and supportive environment to maximize student engagement during program hoursย 
  • Plan and execute interactive lesson plans based on knowledge of theory, practical and techniques of skating to introduce, develop and master skills within the Learn to Skate USA testing structureย 
  • Implement different teaching strategies and exercises to aid in all learning abilities and stylesย 
  • Report immediately all accidents/incidents and Inform the Director of Skating of any program issues and concerns regarding student progress and behaviorย 
  • Uphold FSH Values and youth development principlesย 
  • Record and update attendance and skating skills accordinglyย 
  • Encourage positive student behavior that promotes character developmentย 
  • Maintain meaningful positive rapport with students and parentsย 
  • Attend staff meetings, trainings, and other professional development opportunitiesย 
  • Perform additional related duties as instructed by skating management teamย ย 

Qualifications:

  • Must be at minimum a Learn to Skate USA compliant instructor
  • At least 18 years of age
  • Coaching experience with elementary, middle and high school level students
  • Must be energetic, enthusiastic and likes working with young people
  • Knowledge in other areas like nutrition, sports injuries, anatomy is a plus
  • Ability to work with other instructors or specialists over the course of the season
