Figma Developer information

What is a Figma developer?

A Figma Developer is a professional who specializes in using Figma, a collaborative interface design tool, to create, prototype, and refine user interfaces for web and mobile applications. They often bridge the gap between design and development by turning Figma designs into interactive prototypes or production-ready code. Figma Developers work closely with designers and front-end engineers to ensure design consistency and usability across digital products. Their expertise includes working with Figma's features, plugins, and sometimes integrating Figma assets with development workflows.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Figma developer?

To thrive as a Figma Developer, you need a strong grasp of UI/UX design principles, proficiency in Figma, and a solid understanding of front-end development languages like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Familiarity with design systems, prototyping tools, and version control platforms such as Git is typically required. Collaboration, attention to detail, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for translating design concepts into functional, user-friendly interfaces. These skills ensure high-quality, consistent digital products and smooth collaboration between design and development teams.

How does a Figma developer typically collaborate with designers and other team members during a project?

A Figma Developer works closely with designers by translating design prototypes into interactive, production-ready components while ensuring the final product matches the intended user experience. They often participate in design handoff meetings, provide technical feedback, and use Figma's collaborative features to communicate changes and resolve questions in real time. Additionally, they may work alongside front-end developers, product managers, and QA specialists to ensure seamless integration of designs into the development workflow. This role requires strong communication skills and a proactive approach to addressing design and technical challenges.

What is the difference between Figma Developer vs UI Designer?

AspectFigma DeveloperUI Designer
Primary FocusImplementing designs in Figma, creating prototypes, collaborating on design systemsDesigning user interfaces, creating visual layouts, selecting color schemes and typography
Skills & CertificationsProficiency in Figma, basic understanding of front-end code, collaboration skillsDesign tools (Adobe XD, Sketch), visual design skills, user experience knowledge
Work EnvironmentDesign teams, product teams, often in tech or digital agenciesCreative studios, in-house design teams, digital agencies

While both roles work closely on digital product design, a Figma Developer specializes in translating designs into interactive prototypes and collaborating on design systems within Figma, often with some coding knowledge. A UI Designer focuses on creating the visual aspects of interfaces, emphasizing aesthetics and user experience. Understanding these differences helps employers and job seekers align expectations and skills.

Can I get a job if I know Figma?

Figma developers and designers often find job opportunities in UI/UX design, product development, and front-end roles that require proficiency in design tools. Knowing Figma can be a valuable skill, especially when combined with knowledge of design principles, prototyping, and collaboration tools. However, employers typically look for a portfolio or experience demonstrating practical application of design skills alongside Figma expertise.

Does Figma hire remote workers?

Figma, as a company, offers many remote work opportunities across various roles, including design and development positions. For Figma Developer roles specifically, remote work is often available, but it depends on the company's current hiring needs and the specific job listing. Candidates should review individual job postings for remote work options and requirements.

Job description

Description
Product Designer - UX/UI

The Company: Varonis (Nasdaq: VRNS) secures AI and the data that powers it. The Varonis platform gives organizations automated visibility and control over their critical data wherever it lives and ensures safe and trustworthy AI from code to runtime. Backed by 24x7x365 managed detection and response, Varonis gives thousands of organizations worldwide the confidence to adopt AI, reduce data exposure, and stop AI-powered threats.

The Role: We are seeking a Product Designer who will help shape the experience of the Atlas platform. Atlas is Varonis' enterprise AI security platform that helps organizations discover, understand, govern, and protect their use of AI. The platform brings together complex security data, technical workflows, and emerging AI concepts. Your role will be to turn that complexity into clear, intuitive product experiences that help users understand what matters and take the right action.

You will work closely with product managers, engineers, security researchers, and other stakeholders throughout the product development process, owning design work from early problem definition and exploration through detailed interaction design, developer handoff, and validation of the implemented experience. This is a hands-on product design role suited to someone who is comfortable working through ambiguity, asking thoughtful questions, and iterating quickly with a cross-functional team.

Location: This role is a full-time, in-office position and we are seeking candidates based out of the Vancouver, BC area.

The Requirements:

  • Approximately 4-7 years of experience designing digital products, preferably complex B2B, enterprise, developer, data, or security products.
  • A portfolio that demonstrates strong product thinking, interaction design, visual design, and end-to-end ownership.
  • Experience designing workflows that involve complex information, configuration, data analysis, or technical concepts.
  • Strong proficiency with Figma, including components, prototyping, and design-system patterns.
  • Ability to break down ambiguous problems and organize complex requirements into clear user experiences.
  • Strong attention to detail, including interaction states, empty states, errors, permissions, edge cases, and responsive behavior.
  • Ability to communicate design decisions clearly and collaborate constructively with product managers and engineers.
  • Comfort receiving feedback, challenging assumptions, and iterating quickly.
  • A practical mindset focused on shipping high-quality product experiences rather than producing design artifacts in isolation.
  • Ability to work from our Vancouver office on a full-time basis.

Nice To Have:

  • Experience designing cybersecurity, AI, cloud, developer, infrastructure, or observability products.
  • Experience with enterprise administration, policy configuration, investigation, or governance workflows.
  • Familiarity with data visualization and designing interfaces for large or complex datasets.
  • Experience conducting usability testing or customer research.
  • Experience contributing to or maintaining a design system.
  • An interest in AI products and the security, governance, and operational challenges surrounding enterprise AI adoption.

The Responsibilities:

  • Own the end-to-end UI/UX design process for features across the Atlas platform.
  • Work with product managers and engineers to understand customer problems, product requirements, technical constraints, and business goals.
  • Translate complex security and AI concepts into experiences that are understandable and actionable.
  • Create user flows, wireframes, prototypes, high-fidelity designs, and detailed interaction specifications.
  • Explore multiple design approaches before converging on a solution.
  • Design dashboards, configuration workflows, investigation experiences, data tables, resource detail pages, and other enterprise product interfaces.
  • Identify opportunities to simplify workflows and improve consistency across the platform.
  • Use customer feedback, product data, usability findings, and internal subject-matter expertise to inform design decisions.
  • Present design work clearly, explain the reasoning behind decisions, and incorporate feedback from cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Partner closely with engineers during implementation and review completed work to ensure that the shipped experience matches the intended design.
  • Contribute to the evolution and consistent application of the Atlas design system.
  • Help improve the team's design practices, documentation, and collaboration processes.

Why Join Us:

We value designers who take ownership of the customer experience from beginning to end. Designers are expected to understand the problem being solved, engage closely with technical and product context, evaluate how their designs work in the broader platform, and remain involved until the experience is successfully shipped.

You will join a collaborative, fast-moving team building in an emerging product category. The work often involves problems that do not yet have established design patterns, so curiosity, sound judgment, and a willingness to learn are essential.

You Will:

  • Work on challenging product problems at the intersection of AI, security, governance, and enterprise software.
  • Have meaningful ownership over major parts of a growing platform.
  • Collaborate directly with product and engineering teams throughout the development process.
  • Help define how organizations understand and secure rapidly evolving AI systems.
  • Join an in-person Vancouver team where design decisions can be made collaboratively and quickly.
