Position Overview

The Director, Stadium Operations & Special Events will oversee the general maintenance, upkeep and day-to-day operations of Fifth Third Park while providing strategic leadership over the Special Events department that keeps the ballpark active year-round. Stadium Operations provides maintenance, clean-up, general ballpark operations, parking, and clubhouse operations for Fifth Third Park. On the events side, the Director sets the strategy, standards, and budget for concerts, festivals, private rentals, corporate outings, and community experiences, and directly supervises the Manager, Special Events and event staff who handle day-to-day sales, planning, and execution. This role blends handsโ€‘on facilities leadership with senior oversight of a growing events operation that delivers memorable experiences for the Spartanburg community.

Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesStadium Operations
  • Oversee stadium maintenance and operations for Fifth Third Park
  • Partner with DBH's Senior Director, Stadium Operations & Event Services to provide consistent, efficient, and superior facilities management
  • Prepare and manage the annual budget for annual stadium expenses
  • Strive to complete repairs and maintenance in-house when applicable
  • Attain high-level knowledge and adhere to all MLB PDL compliance regulations
  • Ensure Fifth Third Park is in compliance with MLB's PDL
  • Support operations of all Hub City Spartanburgers and Fifth Third Park facility events including event and game-day setup, customer service, ticket taking, parking, security, field maintenance, and other operations as needed around the stadium
  • Recruit, hire, train, schedule, and lead seasonal Stadium Operations staff
  • Lead full-time Stadium Operations staff
  • Manage parking operations
  • Attain a deep knowledge of the ballpark and its amenities, and be able to direct fans accordingly
  • Ensure security and safety of patrons and co-workers at Fifth Third Park at all times. Develop and execute a Risk Management Safety Plan, work with Police Officers, Fire/Medical personnel, and County officials when necessary to secure the ballpark
Special Events (Department Leadership)
  • Provide strategic leadership for the Special Events department, setting the overall vision, annual goals, and growth strategy for non-gameday events at Fifth Third Park
  • Directly supervise the Manager, Special Events and event staff, setting expectations, providing coaching, and holding the department accountable to revenue and service goals
  • Develop, document, and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for event planning, execution, safety, and settlement to ensure consistency and quality across all events
  • Own the special events budget, revenue targets, and financial reporting, partnering with the General Manager on proformas, projections, and departmental P&L
  • Lead the planning and oversight of major public events and marquee productions (large concerts, festivals, and signature community events), stepping in directly where scale, complexity, or risk warrants senior involvement
  • Serve as the club's lead on DBH-routed events and league- or corporate-directed programming, coordinating with DBH and MLB stakeholders as needed
  • Make higher-level decisions on booking priorities, pricing strategy, and key vendor and partner relationships, balancing event demands against the baseball schedule and facility needs
  • Partner cross-departmentally with Food & Beverage, Ticketing, Marketing, Sales, Grounds, and Stadium Operations to align resources and ensure seamless event delivery
  • Ensure all events comply with applicable permits, safety requirements, and MLB PDL and DBH standards, coordinating with Police, Fire/Medical, and County officials as needed
  • Represent the Hub City Spartanburgers and Texas Rangers brand in a professional and positive manner both inside and outside the ballpark
QualificationsMinimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree (preferred but not required)
  • 5 years' experience maintaining a venue or facility, and/or planning and executing live events
  • Experience leading events, an events team, or an events department (concerts, festivals, rentals, corporate or community events), including budget ownership, is strongly preferred
  • Experience with some small engine equipment is a plus (leaf blower, pressure washer, lawn mower, weed eater, etc.)
  • Painting experience is a plus
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs
  • Ability to safely operate equipment
  • Ability to solve problems quickly and professionally
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple events and priorities at once

  • Ability to remain calm in a fastโ€‘paced environment (Standing continuously for multiple hours, as well as walking up and down stairs)
