Fifa Referee Per Game information

What does a FIFA referee do during a game?

A FIFA referee is responsible for enforcing the Laws of the Game during international football matches. They ensure fair play by making decisions on fouls, goals, penalties, and other key aspects of the game. FIFA referees are also tasked with managing player conduct, issuing yellow and red cards when necessary, and collaborating with assistant referees and video assistant referees (VAR) to make accurate judgments. Their role is crucial for maintaining the integrity and flow of the match.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a FIFA referee per game?

To thrive as a FIFA Referee per game, you need a deep understanding of the Laws of the Game, excellent physical fitness, and official FIFA certification. Familiarity with video assistant referee (VAR) technology and communication systems like headsets is essential. Strong decision-making, assertiveness, and clear communication skills help referees manage players and maintain control on the field. These abilities are crucial to ensure fair play, uphold the integrity of the match, and effectively handle high-pressure situations.

What are some common challenges FIFA referees face during a match, and how do they address them?

FIFA referees often encounter challenges such as managing player emotions, making split-second decisions under intense scrutiny, and maintaining authority on the field. To address these issues, referees rely on thorough knowledge of the rules, strong communication skills, and teamwork with their assistant referees and the VAR (Video Assistant Referee) team. Consistent training, physical fitness, and ongoing professional development also help referees handle the fast-paced and high-pressure environment of professional football matches.

Job description

Hi, I'm Scott with i9 Sports in Scottsdale/Phoenix. We're looking for referees for our fall youth flag football league, and we'd love to have you on the field with us.
No officiating experience needed. If you're enthusiastic, on time, professional and clean-cut, we'll teach you the rest.
Where and when:
Saturdays 7am-12pm at Horizon Park and Vista del Camino Park, starting 9/19/2026.
Sundays 7am-12pm at Thunderbird Park and Chaparral Park, starting 9/20/2026.
What it pays (per game, not hourly):
Jr and Senior games (45 min): $12-$15 to start
Pee-wee games (30 min): $8-$10 to start
Seniors: $20 / $13
This is a 1099 independent contractor role, not a W-2 position.
What you need:
18 or older (we run a Sterling Volunteers background check)
Email address and a cell phone
Reliable transportation to the parks
What to wear:
We can provide a ref shirt, but we'd prefer you get your own. Black shorts or pants and athletic shoes.
If that sounds like a good way to spend a weekend morning, apply and I'll be in touch.
