Job description

Lead Millwright – Pulp & Paper Industry (Heavy Travel Required)

Take the lead in the pulp & paper industry!
We’re hiring a Lead Millwright to oversee and support crews on projects at pulp and paper mills nationwide. This role requires heavy travel with competitive travel pay and per diem. The Lead Millwright will guide teams in installing, maintaining, and repairing critical equipment such as pulpers, refiners, pumps, conveyors, dryers, turbines, rolls and fans.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead and supervise Millwright crews on-site, ensuring safe and efficient work practices
  • Assign tasks, provide direction, and train less experienced Millwrights
  • Oversee installation, alignment, and repair of rotating equipment and paper-making machinery
  • Perform and verify precision alignments, preventive maintenance, and equipment troubleshooting
  • Coordinate with supervisors, engineers, and clients to ensure project goals are met
  • Safely manage rigging and equipment moves, ensuring proper load handling and crew communication
  • Maintain documentation of work performed and compliance with safety standards

What We’re Looking For

  • 6+ years industrial maintenance/construction experience; 3+ years as a Millwright in pulp & paper or heavy industry
  • Prior leadership or supervisory experience strongly preferred
  • Strong knowledge of rotating equipment, pumps, conveyors, hydraulics, and paper mill machinery
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals
  • Skilled in welding, machining, rigging, and use of precision measuring tools
  • Reliable, safety-focused, and able to travel extensively for project assignments
  • Must have full set of Journeyman Millwright tools

Physical Requirements

Employee will be required to perform large amounts of standing, walking, bending, squatting and lifting. Must have good dexterity with hands and fingers to perform the precision adjustments of machinery parts and controls. Will use arms and hands to signal, grab, hold, turn, push, pull: objects, materials, controls and tools. May be required to lift, carry and move up to 50lbs. Will occasionally work at heights, climb ladders and stairways and work off of platforms. Will use vision abilities to focus, see short and long distances, colors, depth perception and peripheral vision. Must be capable of working outside in the elements including but not limited to the heat, cold, rain, snow and wind; and must be able to work for long period of times up to 12 hours a day as needed. Will be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to: hard hat, safety glasses, goggles, ear plugs, muffs, masks, respirators, safety vests, gloves and steel-toe boots.
