Field Service Millwright information

What is a field service millwright?

Field Service Millwrights are skilled tradespeople who install, maintain, and repair industrial machinery and mechanical equipment at client sites. They travel to various locations to troubleshoot problems, assemble or dismantle machinery, and ensure equipment is operating safely and efficiently. Their work often involves reading technical blueprints, aligning and calibrating heavy equipment, and using specialized tools. Field Service Millwrights play a crucial role in minimizing downtime and keeping industrial operations running smoothly.

What skills and qualifications are needed to be a field service millwright?

To thrive as a Field Service Millwright, you need mechanical aptitude, troubleshooting skills, and a technical diploma or apprenticeship certification in industrial mechanics. Familiarity with precision alignment tools, hydraulic systems, and maintenance management software is typically required. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help in diagnosing issues and working safely with clients and teams. These competencies ensure reliable machinery installation, efficient repairs, and minimal downtime in industrial settings.

What challenges do field service millwrights face on-site, and how can they be managed?

Field Service Millwrights often encounter challenges such as working in unfamiliar environments, troubleshooting complex machinery under time constraints, and adapting to varying safety protocols at different client sites. Effective communication with site managers and team members is key to understanding specific site requirements and ensuring all safety measures are followed. Staying organized, bringing the right tools, and proactively researching the equipment you’ll be servicing can help manage these challenges and ensure successful project completion.

Job description

Description

This role focuses on the repair, rebuild, testing, and occasional field service of industrial pumps and rotating equipment. You'll diagnose failures, rebuild equipment to OEM specifications, perform testing, and support customer installations and repairs both in our OEM-authorized service center and at customer facilities.

This is an OEM-authorized repair environment - not plant maintenance. Rather than performing routine maintenance on the same equipment every day, you'll be involved in complete tear-downs, failure analysis, rebuilds, remanufacturing, and field service on a wide variety of industrial pumps and rotating equipment.

About Fischer & Tencarva

Fischer Process Industries is a leading distributor and service provider of pumps, valves, instrumentation, controls, and process equipment serving customers throughout Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, and West Virginia.

Fischer is part of Tencarva Machinery Company, one of the largest and most respected distributors and OEM-authorized service networks in the pump and process equipment industry. Together, we provide equipment distribution, applications engineering, OEM-authorized repair, field service, automation & controls, and custom fabrication for industrial and municipal customers across 38 locations in 18 states. Equipment You'll Work On

  • Self-priming centrifugal pumps (Gorman-Rupp is our primary pump line)
  • Vertical turbine pumps
  • Mag-drive pumps
  • Air-operated diaphragm (AODD) pumps
  • Gearboxes, motors, blowers, valves, mixers/agitators, and other rotating equipment

What You'll Be Responsible For

  • Disassemble, inspect, troubleshoot, and diagnose failures in industrial pumps and rotating equipment
  • Perform complete tear-downs, repairs, rebuilds, and remanufacturing work to OEM specifications
  • Replace bearings, seals, shafts, impellers, wear components, and other repair parts
  • Perform laser alignment and other precision mechanical measurements
  • Read and interpret mechanical drawings, parts diagrams, manuals, and OEM documentation
  • Test, inspect, and verify equipment performance following repair completion
  • Assist with field troubleshooting, equipment removal, installation, alignment, and startup activities
  • Perform limited manual machining as needed to support rebuild work
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safety-focused work environment

Why Fischer / Tencarva

  • Day shift, Monday-Friday schedule
  • Earn up to 120 hours (3 weeks) of PTO per year, plus 10 paid holidays
  • Profit Sharing via 401(k)
  • One of the largest and most respected distributors and OEM-authorized service networks in the pump industry
  • Stable, growing company with nearly 50 years of success and no history of layoffs
  • Long-term customer relationships with consistent demand for repair services
  • Primarily shop-based work with occasional local field service
  • Big-company resources with a local-shop feel
  • Family-oriented culture that respects life outside of work
  • Realistic workloads and expectations - not a high-pressure production environment

Insurance benefits include medical, dental, vision, disability, and life.

Requirements

What We're Looking For

  • 2+ years of hands-on industrial pump repair, rebuild, rotating equipment service, millwright, or related mechanical experience required (5+ years preferred)
  • Ability to independently complete full tear-down and rebuild projects from inspection through final testing
  • Experience with centrifugal pumps, vertical turbine pumps, and related rotating equipment preferred
  • Familiarity with laser alignment and precision mechanical measurements
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, parts diagrams, and OEM documentation
