Job description

The successful candidate will be responsible for performing on-site repairs, preventative maintenance, installations and training on leading-edge laser cutting, welding and marking systems and subsystems.  This position will play an important role in serving as a company liaison with the customer, helping them to optimize their laser process and up-time requirements.  If not at a customer site, the candidate will work from home and prepare for future service visits or support the customer service contact center


Location: Minneapolis–Saint Paul


The Field Service Engineer will:

· Play a critical role in leading delivery of the service needs of our customers in Minneapolis–Saint Paul area

· Perform the onsite installation, training, preventative maintenance, upgrade and repair of our complex laser cutting, welding and marking systems and subsystems

· Local travel required to visit and service customers in Minneapolis–Saint Paul area supporting existing and growing install base.   Occasional travel outside Minneapolis–Saint Paul area to service customers in central US states.  Valid passport required for product training in Europe

· Diagnose and troubleshoot system and subsystem issues through statistical analysis and evaluation of laser system reliability

·Test, tune, and adjust equipment to obtain optimum operating performance.

·Advise management regarding customer satisfaction, product performance, and suggestions for product improvements.

·Support sales activities by collecting and forwarding relevant information

·Report on customer spare part requirements

·Serve as company liaison with customers on administrative and technical matters for assigned projects

·Provide technical support via telephone/email and serve as a communication link with the internal factory staff

Education and Work Experience:  

· Candidate must possess the following:

· 2-year technical degree or equivalent work experience or vocational training or U.S. Military electronics training /experience

· 3 - 5 years relevant field service experience

· Experience with laser or optics is highly desirable

· Problem solving skills to be able to troubleshoot electronic, electro-optical, electrical, software & mechanical problems

· Correctly interpret electrical schematics

· Computer literate education and work experience

· Ability to lift and carry up to 50lbs.

· Ability to work closely with a team as well as independently

· Exceptional customer service skills

· Excellent written and verbal communication

· Command of written and spoken English
