Job description

GENERAL FUNCTION: Under the direction of the Wellness/Fitness Director, the Fitness Floor Associate (FFA) is responsible for ensuring members and guests have an exceptional experience while on the fitness floor. The FFA will create a safe, welcoming environment where members can learn and connect with YMCA resources that empower them to achieve their health and wellness goals.

MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Education/Experience Requirements:

  1. Minimum age of 20
  2. Minimum two years customer service experience
  3. Relevant experience in the field of health and wellness

Physical/Mental Requirements:

  1. Must be able to routinely perform the following physical activities; climb stairs, bend, stoop, kneel, twist, reach with hands, sit, stand for extended periods of time, walk, lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, have finger dexterity, grasp, perform repetitive motions, talk, hear and have visual acuity to perform detailed tasks
  2. Must have ability to communicate effectively; both orally and in writing
  3. Must possess problem solving, organizational and task management skills; ability to make independent and sound decisions in a rapidly changing environment
  4. Must be detail oriented and exhibit a high degree of accuracy and alertness
  5. Must demonstrate initiative in absence of supervision
  6. Must be able to build meaningful relationships and relate to and work with diverse groups of people in a friendly and consistent manner
  7. Must work collaboratively as a team member as well as independently and lead by accomplishing goals, duties and by meeting deadlines
  8. Must possess ability to exercise high levels of discretion and confidentiality
  9. Must present a neat and professional appearance at all times

Job Requirements:

  1. Commitment to the YMCA mission, vision and values
  2. Must attend New Employee Orientation within 30 days of hire
  3. Complete CPR/AED, First Aid, O2, Listen First Workshop, Fitness Floor Associate Prep, and Culture of Excellence in accordance with Conditions of Employment
  4. Learn all emergency procedures and action plans for the branch
  5. Understand and abide-by all policies and procedures as set forth by the association
  6. Work a schedule that reflects the needs of the branch; including evenings and weekends

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Being the "go to" person on the fitness floor by educating and enforcing YMCA policies, procedures and being readily available to answer member and guest's questions.
  2. Being a constant presence on the fitness floor by walking around, cleaning and maintaining order, providing a positive and inviting atmosphere.
  3. Providing exceptional customer service by greeting people by name and engaging members and guests while promoting and encouraging involvement in YMCA programs, classes, and group/personal training.
  4. Recognizing and reporting maintenance issues regarding any part of the fitness floor to supervisor as soon as issues arise.
  5. Educating and encouraging members to participate in the Strong Community Campaign.
  6. Attending staff and association meetings and training as directed by the Wellness/Fitness Director.
  7. All other duties as assigned.

EFFECT ON END RESULT: The fitness floor is safe, clean, engaging and full of satisfied members and guests that leads to increased group and personal training, member retention, high branch NPS score and more members and guests living a healthy lifestyle.
