Job description

Job Summary
General Atomics (GA), and its affiliated companies, is one of the world's leading resources for high-technology systems development ranging from the nuclear fuel cycle to remotely piloted aircraft, airborne sensors, and advanced electric, electronic, wireless and laser technologies.
We have an exciting opportunity for a Landscaper to join our Facilities Team in Poway, CA!
Under limited supervision, this position is responsible for the maintenance and repair of the grounds and outside fixtures. Operates a variety of mechanical equipment and hand tools.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Performs a combination of cutting lawns, trimming and edging around walkways, roads, flower beds and walls.
  • Prunes shrubs, trees and plants. Rakes up leaves and litter.
  • Performs periodic inspections of plants and grasses. Makes routine recommendations for changes in care schedules.
  • Assists in determining the timetable for fertilizer and disease/pest control programs.
  • Mixes and uses chemicals, some of which may be hazardous materials subject to special handling requirements.
  • Assembles, installs, modifies and maintains irrigation systems and plumbing under general direction.
  • May perform trade work such as carpentry or painting.
  • Assists in planning and designing changes or modifications to landscape.
  • May operate tractors or other equipment with attachments such as mower, fertilizer spreader, rototiller, sod remover, back hoe, lawn roller, etc.
  • Responsible for observing all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company.
  • Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.
  • Additional Functions: Other duties as assigned or required.

Job Qualifications
  • Typically requires a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Requires a valid California driver's license with a good driving record verified by the DMV.
  • Must have complete knowledge and understanding of safe lifting procedures.
  • Work is performed outside often during inclement weather under limited supervision.
  • Assignments are somewhat complex in nature and may require physical stamina to complete tasks.
  • Independent judgment is often required in solving basic problems and making routine recommendations.
  • Bi-lingual skills (English-Spanish) are an asset.
