As of Jun 15, 2026, the average hourly pay for fertility billing in the United States is $20.52, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $17.55 and $22.60 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What is fertility billing?

Fertility billing refers to the process of managing and submitting insurance claims and payments for fertility treatments, such as IVF, egg freezing, and other assisted reproductive technologies. Professionals in fertility billing work with patients, clinics, and insurance providers to ensure accurate coding, claim submission, and reimbursement for services rendered. They also help patients understand their insurance coverage and out-of-pocket costs related to fertility treatments.

What are some common challenges faced in a Fertility Billing role and how can they be managed?

Professionals in Fertility Billing often encounter complex insurance policies, frequent claim denials, and rapidly changing billing codes specific to fertility treatments. Navigating these challenges requires attention to detail, ongoing education about insurance regulations, and proactive communication with both patients and payers. Many find it helpful to work closely with clinical staff and insurance coordinators to ensure accurate coding and timely claim submission, which minimizes delays and improves reimbursement rates.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Fertility Billing Specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Fertility Billing Specialist, you need a solid understanding of medical billing and coding, insurance processes, and knowledge of fertility treatment terminology, often supported by experience or certification in medical billing. Familiarity with billing software, electronic health records (EHR), and insurance verification systems is typically required. Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and strong communication skills are valuable soft skills for this role. These competencies are crucial for ensuring accurate claims processing, timely reimbursements, and effective patient and provider communication in the sensitive area of fertility services.

Job description

Financial Services Representative — RMA Long Island IVF Melville, NY · Full-time · On-site

You'll be the financial guide patients rely on during one of the most emotionally charged journeys of their lives — helping families understand their coverage, clear financial hurdles, and focus on what matters most.

Why You'll Love It Here

  • Competitive pay: $21–$24/hr + comprehensive benefits
  • Meaningful work: help real families grow
  • Career growth: develop rare, in-demand fertility finance skills
  • Great team: collaborative, supportive culture

What You'll Do

This is a fast-paced, high-volume role. You'll be juggling multiple priorities at once and owning a wide range of responsibilities, including:

  • Pre-authorization and surgical scheduling for your assigned physician
  • Charge entry, payment collection, and patient account management
  • Consulting with patients on financial responsibilities and insurance coverage
  • Responding to patient concerns about billing and insurance (sometimes de-escalating matters with patience and professionalism when coverage doesn't go their way)
  • Serving as a calm, steady presence when patients are upset with clinical staff or insurance outcomes
  • Preparing daily financial reports and handling bank deposits
  • Upholding HIPAA standards and protecting patient confidentiality at every step

What We're Looking For

  • Minimum 1 year of hands-on medical billing experience in a busy medical office environment
  • OB/GYN or fertility billing experience is a strong plus
  • CPT/ICD-9 coding knowledge and proficiency with medical software and MS Office
  • Proven ability to multitask in a high-volume environment without dropping the ball
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills: you stay calm, kind, and solution-focused even when patients are frustrated or upset
  • Genuine empathy for patients navigating one of the most stressful experiences of their lives
